Gonna Stay Up For This One? Yanks-As Gamer

Burning questions with which to light the midnight oil:

Will the Yanks lock a playoff spot? (yes, but tonight?)
Will the Yanks win a game in Anaheim this year? (let alone a series.. they are oh fer seven looking back)
Will the Yanks win their fifth game in a row in which Gaudin has appeared? (stretching for material)
Will the key to the drawer of yellow, faded clippings from which Filip Bondy drew his recent retread article ever be lost? (Frankly, I hope not. It’s good to remind the young-uns.)

C’mon, Yankees, hang your dirty jocks on the Halo just once, will ya? Comment away.

While doing my deep preparation for authoring this gamer (all seven minutes worth) I saw three sponsored separate ad links listed sequentially on espn.com whose lead lines were:

Do NOT Die From Smoking!
DON’T Pay for White Teeth
SMOKELESS Cigarette

They all went to the same ad, but it’s just really funny and odd to me.

My blind Yankee faith tells me everything will work out. K, if you are going to let your life hang in the balance of a SP I’d go with some safer like Carsten Charles! Hang in there man, no worries it’s clear Paul has jinxed the Sox with his post 2 days ago.

k –
What happens after you’ve already been reincarnated? Is there any point at which you lose your identity and come back as a frog or a glass of orange juice?

Due to my karmic awesomeness Rob, I figure I will come back as Marissa Miller’s showerhead…

Great choice, k! I mean a vibrator gets broken and replaced. But a showerhead lasts a lifetime!
You’re a genius…

K for ARod…pathetic yes, but at least he didn’t GIDP. No clutch hitting anymore for any reason…solid.

Lame-ass pop up for Hip Hip…no damage allowed. Game over. Here come the Angels to annihilate Gaudin…f-ck. We suck.

Leadoff double for Cano!!!!! 2nd with NO OUTS!!! SOMEONE GET HIM HOME…ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME???

Gardner gets him to 3rd…2 outs. COME ON JETER!!!! IF ANYONE CAN GET A 2-OUT RBI IT’S YOU!!!

I cannot believe they are flailing away at these shit breaking balls??? ARE YOU F-CKING KIDDING ME??? HAD A MAN ON 3RD TWO STRAIGHT F-CKING INNINGS AND NO ONE CAN GET A F-CKING HIT??? Yeah, we’re going REAL far in the f-cking playoffs….F-CK!!!

Yeah John – preceded by a snail-mail letter received yesterday explaining that 1,000 lucky season tix holders were informed that they’d get their own pre-pre-sale tomorrow (Sept 23) and that the rest of us get to buy tix in the regular pre-sale on Fri, Sept 25. Did you make it into the lucky 1,000?
there will then be a separate drawing for World Series tix. The bummer is that we now only get one pair of tix to the entirety of the ALDS AND ALCS rather than 2 per each post-season series.
Holy A-ROD nuclear bomb to center! Magic number at 7 thanks to KC and now A-Rod swinging an oak tree in his favorite park. I like it.

WIld pitch…Godzilla to 2nd. You know it must have been a REALLY wild pitch for Matsui to advance!

Got the snail mail as well. Two letters saying the same thing…nope I am part of the Friday group as well. No loyalty it’s a shame. I’ll let you know how I do. If I can’t use them I’ll email you.
Another HR, these team is so one dimensional. They’re doomed.

Well, that was MUCH better…I think I’ve been being too easy on them lately. The swoon is my fault. No doubt.

Great John, and I’ll do the same. I have to travel a bit in Oct so it’s possible I’ll end up with something I can’t use. I think I might go straight for ALCS home game #3 / Series game # 6. Haven’t decided yet.

And the Angels have us just where they want us. 2 outs and man on first. Figgins about to eat Jorge’s lunch.

Jeter steals 2nd…came up lame though. This is not cool. Rolling his head as if he hurt his neck.

Eat it Angels! That’s how you run the bases!!! And Jeter smacks his head. I swear, my pent up aggression against this team is pretty unparalleled, even by the Sox. It’s the infuriating way they beat us that makes me want to see them writhing on the ground in agony.

And Hunter K’s twice thanks to poor umpiring. Gaudin looking good. Joba watching his post-season starting prospects slip away. Our rotation might actually be CC-Pettitte-AJ-Chad Gaudin.

I hear you IH…my in-laws live about 15 minutes from Angels Stadium in Irvine. We went to an Angels/Dodgers game and there was this kid in a Yankees hat that the fans in our section literally rode all game long. People HATE us there, and we hate them…it would be nice to crush them in the playoffs!!!!! Or the Sox of course…

I need to crash…still recovering from the disaster that was last night. Hold down the fort IH. WE SUCK!!!!

Small ball, meet BIG BALL! Matsui crushes one. These are not cheap HRs tonight. Well, except Jorge’s.
See ya KR – rest up. Given the pace of the game I might not last either, though I’d like to see the clinch – which is looking pretty good with both Texas losing and the Yanks up by 5…but more insurance welcomed here…

It’s my wife and kids sir – I nearly orphaned them today.
Never leave your wingman KR…
And Figgins gets a (what else) 2-out HR that clears both the fence and the foul pole by a couple feet. 5-1 good guys. Now a double for Izturis. 2 out rally. Wonderful. Come on Chad, one more out and you’re eligible for the win…

2-0 to Abreu with Vlad the Impailer on deck. Clouds gathering…
Incidentally, has their ever been a better nickname than Vlad the Impailer? I mean, I’m sure it wasn’t great in the eyes of those he was impailing in the Mountains of transylvania or wherever, but it’s got to be hands down the all-time greatest intimidation name.
And Gaudin walks him to bring up Vlad. Please Joe, don’t be sentimental with Gaudin here. Save him from being impailed!!!

Posada misses catching the foul pop up by an inch and Vlad then singles in a run. 5-2 Yanks. Hanging Chad finally getting pulled. A batter late Joe. In comes Aceves. He has been a horse – and we need him in full effect right now.

The Angels with 2 outs are infuriating. And torii gets ANOTHER gift call on his not-checked check swing. Kenny Singleton agrees with me – I must be right. Torii Ks!!! Aceves is beautiful. Seriously. How good has he been?!?

3-run lead in the 6th is NOT ENOUGH. Gardner flies out to Abreu, covering more territory than his physique would make you think he could. Back to Jeter…

Lightning fast 1-2-3 inning for the Yanks. Let’s’ go Ace – 2 more good innings and we are in H-Mo territory.

Single – RBI. 5-3 yanks, one out, 1st and 2nd. No pen action. Yet. Figgins up. And just think, the Angels’ 2-out rally is still to come in this inning.

And Izturis flies out to A-Rod. Abreu up with bases loaded. Marte warming but Aceves staying out there. I actually think Aceves has earned this being nails all year, but it doesn’t feel good right now. And he goes 2-0 on him. Trouble.

That was a HANGING/FLAT breaking ball, but Abreu took it for strike 2…and a Bruney sighting in the pen finally pushes me over the edge and I puke in my mouth.
Ball 3. Cue organ music…

Walks in a run. 5-4. Vlad up. Hits a SHOT to A-Rod, who makes a brilliant diving play! YES! One run lead is NOTHING but it’s better than…well…nothing…

This game won’t be over before 2:30 am. I’m watching the bats here and then crashing. Runs. We need them. Now.

Torii robs Teix with a shoestring catch. I guess 8 gold gloves makes up for having a stripper’s first name. Oakland up 8-1 on Texas so the Yanks should get their clinch even if they keep bleeding runs, but a win in this nightmarish place would be nice. A-Rod back to pitcher. Quick 2 outs. Hideki – we need some East Asian thunder. Please?

A 1-run lead with 3 to play. If a team could invent a way to score a run without making any contact or getting a single walk, it would be this freaking team. And Hideki with the long fly-out. I’m not sure I can watch this.

Aceves for another inning??? What? Why? We’ve got a flotilla of rested arms in the pen.
Ground out. And here comes Joe to get Marte.

Marte gives up a double to Morales who is battering us tonight. There goes Marte. Good riddance. Income Franchise with one out in the 7th. Interesting. And I am just fine with it.

Hughes: one pitch, one out. Runner advances – 2 outs, tying run on 3rd. Hughes pumping heat to Aybar. 0-2…

Tries to drop the curveball hammer but Aybar fouls it off. Still 0-2…then gets the ground out to Jeter. HUGHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Texas loses and our long national nightmare is over…Yanks back to the postseason for the first time in….a year.

2 errors put the tying run on 3rd…as if homefield advantage doesnt matter to the yanks. THEY CANT WIN HERE….once they blow this lead it will be the 3rd 4-0 lead they have coughed up in anaheim this year!

Tie game. Why am I still here? Good night. Hope they come back, but if they do, I’ll be asleep. And still angry.

Just got home, and err.. this is not a happy incident. Was 5-0.
If they can’t win now, I don’t know what to say. This time it’s not on the pitching though, at least not the last run. Shoddy defense.. poor Hughes.
I’m passing out.

OK, saw Gardner had gotten on base and went back out to watch the rest. Small ball plus defense (the strike-out-throw-out DP by Mo/Jorge was a thing of beauty) beat the Angels at their own game. Needed that win. A win tomorrow and the yanks are actually .500 against this team in ’09. More importantly, tonight helped ensure the Angels don’t grab homefield throughout the playoffs from the Yanks.
Huge night for A-Rod in the field and at the plate.
Magic # to 6. Now we can stop entertaining unrealistic thoughts of the Sox overtaking the Yankees and start entertaining unrealistic thoughts of the Yanks clinching the division against the Sox this weekend.

I DVR’d the rest of the game and watched it over Frosted Mini Wheats this morning…man, that was brutal. Ace was pretty un-Ace like but the boys got the big run in the 9th! Gardner getting on base is huge…imagine if he could get his OBP up around .400???
Mo was $$$, that strike ’em out throw ’em out double play was sick!!!
Gamecast here at work today to see if AJ can put together another solid start so I can put down the sleeping pills…
