The Rays hang 4 on Buchholz in the top of the first, and then Aviles gets picked off after singling in the bottom of the first. I'm trying to remember why he is leading off again. Someone remind me. Oh yeah, my MFRS is hurt. I would not say that Valentine has magical powers that forcibly manifest his reality, but those bizarre spring training experimentations have now proved truth by necessity. Cue the theramin. Jeremy Hellickson is pitching for the Rays at Fenway. Comment away.

No damage for Clay in that inning, aside from a single and the balk. Would at least be encouraging to see him settle down and stick around for awhile.
Salty literally doubles his BA with a 2-run homer.
Salty homer cuts the lead in half.
Clay is pretty much pitching like garbage.
Where’s Vicente?
It figures Luke Scott would have a killer game. Hell.
Laser show!!
Would’ve been even nicer if that made it 4-3, but I’ll take it.
Hellickson not exactly blowing the doors off the place himself. Sox have a chance with Papi and Sweeney on 2nd and 3rd, one out, Salty up.
And now it’s up to Aviles.
Aaaaaand they get nothing.
PAPI!
Papi ties it!!
Hellickson’s out. Wow, Clay ended up having the better start of the two. Crazy.
Buchholz looking much better now than in the first few innings. Encouraging.
Wow, and finishes (I assume) with a flourish, striking out Longoria. I would not have kept him out there for the 7th, but it worked.
Aviles. Red Sox finally take the lead. Wish he’d done that last time with the bases loaded.
Cody Ross comes through with a two-run double. This game is shaping up pretty nicely. 8-5. Hope the bullpen will not let us down.
Bruins lose.
Excellent inning from Morales. Probably Aceves in the 9th. Unless the bottom of the eighth turns out like it did yesterday.
Loaded for Papi. Two out.
Papi goes the other way for a three-run double.
Cody Ross over the monster. 13-5 Sox. Love that bottom of the eighth.
This late offense is now entering LOL territory.
Lin enters for the first time plus it’s Aceves anyway.
I guess Alfredo needs the work. 15 pitches and it’s done. Very good.
.500 tomorrow?
Night everybody.
Ahead of myself there.
.500 on Monday?
.500 would be especially impressive, PBE, since the Sox are still just 3-5. But it does feel a little better than that after these two games, doesn’t it? Hey, better run differential than the Yankees!
And as of today, I’d say Buchholz looks better than Hughes and the famously struggling Youkilis looks no worse than Teixeira.
1 game back! (of the three teams that matter…’cause I mean sure, Baltimore’s up two, but who cares?)
First back-to-back wins since late August!
“First back-to-back wins since late August!”
Wow. I had to verify the veracity of that statement. Wow.
