And that’s because in four hours I want to be witnessing the start of Game 3 of the ALDS in Yankee Stadium. So I wish it would start pouring now and finish up right around 6:30 or so. I’d liveblog from the stadium but my Treo broke.
As much as I’m psyched about the Angels, I’ve gotta give the edge to Yanks tonight with the Big and Very Ugly Unit on the mound. (Somehow, that guy just does not look right in a Yankee uniform.) The Angels have Paul Byrd going, who has quietly been very effective this season (despite poor run support) with his precision pitches. If we, for the sake of argument, say that the pitching is even (BP today claims that numberswise, Johnson has been only marginally better than Byrd this year), then you have to compare lineups, and there’s no comparison. Of course, there’s still defense to consider, which has already been a significant factor for both sides, and the Angels have a way of pulling it out against the Yankees.
I like the way the Angels play (constantly running), but on the other, I think Mike could stand to be a little more conservative with his plays — witness the several failed hit and runs in the last couple of games. On the other hand, it usually works out for them, and it makes sense to pressure the Yankee defense in particular. And it’s pretty much how the Angels define their team identity, so I think we’ll see more of it. (There will be a double steal before this series is out, I’m telling you.)
