In Defense: Sox-Angels Gamer I

The title defense begins in earnest in just an hour. The Sox send Jon Lester to the hill against John Lackey, and will surely do everything they can to forget their 1-8 regular season record against the AL’s best.

  • Interesting lineup:
    1. Ellsbury
    2. Pedroia
    3. Ortiz
    4. Youkilis
    5. Drew
    6. Bay
    7. Lowell
    8. Lowrie
    9. Varitek
I’m not sure I would start Ellsbury over Coco, but I’m amped to see Varitek in the 9-hole.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 9:15 pm
  • Surprised that Lowell is even playing. I was under the impression he wouldn’t be able to go.

    SF October 1, 2008, 9:20 pm
  • They’ll probably yank him depending on how he feels, or depending on the score. I just hope they move Youk over to 3B and slide Casey in at 1B, as opposed to sliding Lowrie over to 3B and putting Cora in at SS.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 9:44 pm
  • If we dont have the lead I want Youk at 3rd and Casey at 1st. With the Lead, Lowrie to third, Cora at short

    Dionysus October 1, 2008, 9:53 pm
  • “It’s playable”?

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:09 pm
  • Nice work by the play-by-play guy, calling a double by Ellsbury “a playable ball” off the bat and assuming the out. Good start for the crew in the booth.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:09 pm
  • Jacoby knows postseason baseball!

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 10:09 pm
  • Bah, Dusty taps one back to Lackey and fails to advance Jacoby. Come on, Papi!

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:10 pm
  • Ellsbury lead-off double!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:10 pm
  • Would it kill TBS to give us OBP? Even YES does that. Their player stat graphic takes up half the screen and has a relatively low amount of info. Paging Edward Tufte!

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:11 pm
  • Bad Papi.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:11 pm
  • Ortiz’ grounder almost could have scored Ellsbury from 2nd, it was hit so slow.
    Youk grounds out, no score.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • Well, that started well and went nowhere. Bad baseball by the Sox.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • I don’t want to be a chip Caray apologist but what I’d guess he meant was, playable and not a home run. Get used to this. He’s awful.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 10:13 pm
  • Already sick of Frank Caliendo? Check here [√]

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • No, that’s not what he meant, IBM, he clearly thought the ball was going to be caught off the bat.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • have to go to sleep now. Better I leave now before the thunderstixx haunt my dreams…

    Nick-YF October 1, 2008, 10:14 pm
  • I have to go to sleep as well, NIck, and this is my team! Damn the Sox’ road record! If it weren’t for that the game would be over already.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:16 pm
  • Yeah, he thought the ball was going to be caught. His voice was devoid of interest or emotion, as if it was a can-o-corn.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:16 pm
  • Are you going to stay up for all of it SF?
Shit, single past a diving Pedroia.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:17 pm
  • Um, what was wrong with that first pitch to Tex?

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:17 pm
  • The broadcaster just called that a sinkerball. Lester doesn’t throw a sinker.
Sigh, Tex singles. Anderson doesn’t advance to 3rd though.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:19 pm
  • This game not starting out well. Lester falls behind, then gets hurt by Tex.
Ath, there is no way I am staying up for this game, it’s just not possible.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • Vlad pops to Drew. One more, Jon!

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • Getting Vlad to pop up on the first pitch makes me smile.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • 2-0 count. Please throw a cutter, not a fastball. PLEASE no 2-0 fastball.
    Ball 3. Damn.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:22 pm
  • Not a very good inning from Lester so far…

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:22 pm
  • Haha Hunter swings HARD at a 3-0 fastball outside, then watches ball 4. Bases loaded.
    We miss you Beckett.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:23 pm
  • Bad inning over. No blood. Whew.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:24 pm
  • KENDRICK GROUNDS OUT!
    *finishes rest of beer #5*

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:24 pm
  • What time do you have to wake up SF? I have to be up at 6:00, so if I hit the pillow at 2:00 I’ll be okay. Every now and then I can get by on 4 hours of sleep, though I’m used to the standard 6.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:25 pm
  • Real tight zone for Lester. Angels looked like they might have something big there. But now both teams blow good 1st inning opportunites.
    This announcing team is awful.

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:27 pm
  • Curveball called a ball on Drew. Shoulda been strike 3… glad the ump is squeezing him too.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:28 pm
  • Jason Bay’s first playoff at-bat! Yeah!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:29 pm
  • First playoff strikeout for Bay. Sad face.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:30 pm
  • Well, other than Jacoby, Lackey has the Sox overmatched, they look clueless against him. Long night ahead if this keeps up.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:30 pm
  • Lowell reads a curveball well but hits it right at Anderson. It’s encouraging to see Drew and Lowell looking good at the plate.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:31 pm
  • Lackey all over the plate, ahead of everyone. Good pitching.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:31 pm
  • They don’t all look clueless: Drew smoked his ball to the 2nd baseman, and Lowell’s shot is more likely than not to drop in for a hit.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:32 pm
  • Do you have two kids, Ath!?

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:32 pm
  • Eh, Drew hit a garden variety ground ball, Ath, not smoked. Lowell hit his ball well (after I posted, though), but the rest of the team (not named Jacoby) haven’t looked good. Lackey’s started out well tonight.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:33 pm
  • I do not, SF, so I’m lucky right now. You’re going to watch at least until midnight so we can wish you a happy B-day, right?

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:33 pm
  • Lester high and outside to Napoli with his first pitch – that’s at least three pitches WAY out of the zone. Now it’s 2-0. Where’s his control!?

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:34 pm
  • Yeah, I do agree that Lackey is getting ahead of everyone. Lester looks nervous, and is falling behind on almost everyone.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:34 pm
  • Holy shit that curveball was sick.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • WTF CRAIG SAGER

    Brownie October 1, 2008, 10:36 pm
  • Midnight? Oof. It’s been a long time since I was up past midnight.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:37 pm
  • “Lester is a different pitcher… he now pitches from the 1st-base side of the plate…”
You mean rubber, not plate, right? God this is horrible to listen to. I miss Remy.
Lester getting ahead of batters this inning. Hopefully he’s settled down for good.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • Lester getting a lot of ground balls, inning over. Only 11 pitches needed that inning.
    Let’s go offense!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • Lester really rebounds, looked much better closing out that inning.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • Lester settling in after a rough start.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 10:39 pm
  • Nonsense SF, I’ve seen you up past midnight for gamers before! I’ve missed a lot of the gamers in the last two months thanks to work, but I do remember the ASG. That was a painful morning.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:39 pm
  • Just got in. Lackey’s been horrible against the Sox in the playoffs and has had a forgettable last two months of the season. I don’t consider it a good sign that the Sox haven’t been able to do much against him…

    Paul SF October 1, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • YES, curveball hits Lowrie on the foot. Shit yeah.
    Varitek, bunt him over please?

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • I remember a time when Varitek was great at bunting and hit-and-runs. Ahh, those were the days.
Grounder back to Lackey, Lowrie slides into the 2nd baseman to break up the DP. Uh oh, and Lackey possibly injured.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:43 pm
  • Bad luck (or good?), Tek hit that hard but right to Lackey, who gets Lowrie at second. Had it gotten through it might have been a hit (or a GIDP).

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:44 pm
  • Announcer admits his mistake in mis-reading Ellsbury’s double in the first inning. Gotta give him credit for admitting his mistake.
Ellsbury grounds into a fielder’s choice, and holy crap was that a nice play. Web gem for sure.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:45 pm
  • Damn. Lackey is hitting his spots with a vengeance.

    Brownie October 1, 2008, 10:46 pm
  • Lackey with a great pitch, but called a ball. He’s getting squeezed too.
    Pitch-out, 2-1 now to Pedroia.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:46 pm
  • 2-1. Good count for Ellsbury to go, if he gets thrown out Dusty leads off.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:47 pm
  • BB. Papi up with two on.

    SF October 1, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Laser Show walks! Come on Ortiz!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:48 pm
  • Ortiz gets a lucky no-swing call. 2-1 count now.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • Both Vlad and Papi with pop-ups in big spots. Damn.
Let’s have another great inning Lester.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:50 pm
  • Definitely got a star next to that turn at 2nd on the Ellsbury grounder. Wow. Angels can really pick it. With Hunter and GMJ, Aybar, Figgins, Tex….Lots of range out there.

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:52 pm
  • BTW: Vlad makes ARod look like the King of Playoff Clutch. And he’s makes Giambi look like Rickey Henderson. Plus he has like 37 kids by 12 women. Yyet people still love him and hate Alex. Go figure.

    YF October 1, 2008, 10:55 pm
  • lmao, TBS accidentally shows a still image of Bon Jovi about to fellate a microphone.
Lester getting behind hitters again, and Anderson singles to left field.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:56 pm
  • Vlad smiles a lot, and always seems to play with the pure joy of a child. Kinda like Manny, but without the other baggage. I can see why they like him.
Wow, this strikezone is all over the place.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:57 pm
  • Tex strikes out, called correctly this time. Red Sox getting some early breaks.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 10:59 pm
  • Lowrie can’t field it. Fuck me in the ass.

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 11:01 pm
  • Plus he has like 37 kids by 12 women.
Four by four women. You’re thinking of Larry Johnson.
And Lowrie boots a bunny, terrible. How we yearn for Juli–er, scratch that.

    SF October 1, 2008, 11:02 pm
  • Alex smiles too! It’s just disingenuous! {kidding!!!}
Gift from Lowie and the Angels are in business.

    YF October 1, 2008, 11:03 pm
  • The crowd is getting loud, Lester starting to sweat. He’s ahead of Torii now 1-2 though.
    FINISH HIM!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 11:03 pm
  • GODDAMNIT Bay should have had that! Fuck!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • Jed Lugo tentative in the field, Jason Bay tentative in the field.
    What the hell?

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:05 pm
  • Ducksnort from Torii scores 1. And we get a closeup of Lowrie.

    YF October 1, 2008, 11:06 pm
  • Only 1 run and i missed the Daily Show monologue. Dagnabit.

    YF October 1, 2008, 11:07 pm
  • Would be a good time for a Youkilis longball.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:07 pm
  • I don’t even understand how you can go out in public wearing a jacket like that, much less on national television.

    Brownie October 1, 2008, 11:27 pm
  • Craig Sager is ridiculous.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:32 pm
  • I don’t like this.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:33 pm
  • Fuck you Torii Hunter! Yeah Lester!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 11:38 pm
  • Jason FUCKING Bay!!

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:47 pm
  • JASON BAY YES FUCK YES AHAHAHAHA!

    Atheose October 1, 2008, 11:47 pm
  • After two strikeouots, Bay launches one 420 feet to left to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:49 pm
  • Hey, there’s Jeter’s only appearance this postseason…

    Brownie October 1, 2008, 11:50 pm
  • Jete’s looking like he was well made up for that ad, too.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:54 pm
  • Three Ks in the 6th for Lester. The Man is Money tonight. MONEY! BIG outs the inning after the Red Sox take the lead.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 1, 2008, 11:59 pm
  • WOw, what a strange inning. Lowrie Ks on a check swing that clearly was a check swing. And then Ellsbury triples to right, but it’s ruled a three-base error even though Matthews did misplay it. But how do you call that an error?

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:06 am
  • Pedro walks, runners at the corner for Papi.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:07 am
  • Former Red Sox clunker Darren Oliver in to face Papi.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:08 am
  • Hahaha Lackey screaming “Fuck!” on camera.
    Oh, and Happy Birthday SF!

    Atheose October 2, 2008, 12:08 am
  • Hey ath, how’s the roomie drama?

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:13 am
  • Yeah, so Big Papi has been less than clutch. That’s what? Five baserunners with two outs he’s stranded all by himself?

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:13 am
  • GameDay says Lester is hitting 97 on the gun. Sheesh. Let’s put him away, Jon!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:23 am
  • Sheeeeet. That 4th pitch to Figgins was a K.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:24 am
  • I mean Anderson.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:24 am
  • Lester = $$$$$

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:25 am
  • Got him!! Jon Lester! What a performance!!
    7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:25 am
  • Jon Lester’s Balls have their own gravitational field.
    I’m just sayin’

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:27 am
  • You know, Danks was fucking spectacular last night for the other Sox, but this Lester tonight, against a much better hitting team, has been nothing short of beautiful. The OC blew it when they didn’t score off him early. That first-pitch pop-up by Vladi in the first might be the key to the game.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:27 am
  • Youkilis just missed giving the Sox some much-needed insurance Instead he flies out, Drew’s gone on the first pitch, so it’s back to Bay again…
Incidentally, I take it as a very good sign that we’re in the eighth inning and both Drew and Lowell are still in the game. Of course they’re a combined 0 for 7 with two strikeouts, but baby steps…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:30 am
  • Shields in for Oliver to face Bay. I don’t mind this. When Shields is bad he’s brutal.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:30 am
  • BAY!

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:33 am
  • Now Bay with the double. Nice! A chance for Lowell to do something here.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:33 am
  • Am I the only one who hates that all stats revert to zero in the postseason? It does me no good to see that this is Bay’s “first” double, or that Lester’s ERA is “0.00”… Even if officially, you don’t count them as part of the regular season, I think it would be far more useful for media orgs to at least keep the running tally…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:34 am
  • I guess I used to it after all these years, Paul, but you make a good point.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:36 am
  • I predict a Kirk Gibson moment for Lowell at some point this October.

    Brownie October 2, 2008, 12:37 am
  • I love Mike Lowell, and totally respect his willingness to play through what is clearly excruciating pain, but he is NOT helping the team in his condition. It might be time to pull him and add Bailey to the roster, give him the ALDS and ALCS (if we make it) to rest up the hip and see if he can’t be healthier for the World Series.
Right now, Bailey or Casey at first with Youk at third would benefit the Sox far more than the barely standing Lowell on offense or defense.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:37 am
  • Burn in hell, Rally Monkey.
Masterson thrown right into the fire. Wow.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:38 am
  • I’ve always thought that was dumb as well, Paul. I think regular season stats should be continued even if the final totals don’t actually change for record keeping purposes.
Or maybe, if you want to conceed to the Media’s “But everything’s different in October” theory, then you actually have a running career postseason set of stat totals.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:38 am
  • you actually have a running career postseason set of stat totals.
That’s a good idea also, Dio. I’d take that.
Masterson runs the count full after jumping ahead 0-2. Gulp.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:40 am
  • ELLSBURY WITH THE CATCH!!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:40 am
  • DREAMBOAT!

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:40 am
  • Guerrero with the single. How much rope before we see Papelbon? Only one more baserunner, I say…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:43 am
  • GUERRERO OUT AT THIRD!!!!!!!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:43 am
  • Come on, Justin. Doubleplay ball.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:44 am
  • The Red Sox are turning on the defense this inning! Wow!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:44 am
  • Jesus. Are the baseball Gods on our side?

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:45 am
  • Mike Sciosia’s unfortunate choices certainly are. Guerrero can’t run. Why wouldn’t you pinch run for him this late in the game?

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:46 am
  • All right, put him away, Justin…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:48 am
  • All these foul balls make me nervous…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:49 am
  • HELL. YES.
    To the ninth!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:50 am
  • Hell. Yes. Thank you Vlad.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:50 am
  • WOW!
    Tremendous baseball.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:50 am
  • I wasn’t going to go to bed. I don’t even know why I considered it.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:51 am
  • We need to thank our lucky STARS that Casey wasn’t in this game. He doesn’t make that play to nab Vlad

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:51 am
  • And big points to Tito for sticking with Masterson and not going to Paps.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:52 am
  • Insurance, please!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:53 am
  • Good start, as Lowrie smacks the single.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:54 am
  • And Tek with the successful sac bunt, for Ellsbury, who SHOULD be a homer short of the cycle right now…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:55 am
  • I can really see the confidence in this team right now. … Great bunt by Tek to move Jed to second.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:55 am
  • ELLSBURY DRIVES HIM HOME!!!!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:58 am
  • Ellsbury’s BACK!

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 12:58 am
  • Hello? State Farm?
I’ve got your insurance RIGHT HERE!

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:58 am
  • What a huge, huge insurance run. Ellsbury remembering what October feels like…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:59 am
  • I’m calling it: Perdo homer. Here.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 12:59 am
  • lol, IBM

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 12:59 am
  • And ANOTHER steal by Ellsbury! God, how can you not love this kid when he’s on??

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 1:00 am
  • Did that get Napoli’s cup?

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:01 am
  • Kneecap, I think, based on what the radio guys are saying…

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 1:02 am
  • That’s a hit Papi doesn’t get without Ellsbury on third base because then they have the shift on.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:06 am
  • Papi singles, 4-1 Sox!

    Atheose October 2, 2008, 1:06 am
  • Ellsbury is the player of the game so far, tied with Lester.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 1:07 am
  • Gotta be co-players, Dion. Lester was fucking brilliant.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:07 am
  • I can’t believe you east-coasters are still awake. This is killing me.

    rootbeerfloat October 2, 2008, 1:08 am
  • Homer here.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:08 am
  • Made my 6 yr old a CD last night. He insisted it include Shipping up to Boston and Tessie. I added Dirty Water, and Don’t Run Wild by the Del fuegos.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:10 am
  • I have to work at 10am too. I’m very tired.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 1:10 am
  • …180054GIANT180054GIANT…

  • OHFUCKINYEAH!!!!!!
What a huge, huge, huge win.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:22 am
  • That’s some sexy shit, gentlemen.

    I'mBillMcNeal October 2, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Awesome win! Awesome, awesome win!
Wow. Huge! Terrific game in all facets!

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Finally, I can sleep!
    Lester and Bay are amazing.

    Atheose October 2, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Ladies and Gentlemen,
Postseason Paps is here. Hold on to yer butts

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Manny’s homer today didn’t matter. Bay’s took the lead.
    Wooot.

    Atheose October 2, 2008, 1:23 am
  • Also, Jason Bay changed the entire tenor of this game. You can’t ignore him when doling out the accolades.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 1:24 am
  • True, Paul, Bay was the go ahead… but this game was all about Lester and Jacoby.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 1:26 am
  • Well, I will respectfully disagree, but this game was too awesome to bicker about. What matters is the Sox are firmly in the driver’s seat of this series, even if the Angels win on Friday. Freaking awesome.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 1:29 am
  • Oh and we owe an assist to Vlad. His popping out on the first pitch in the first and his getting thrown out at third really killed the ballgame for the Angels.

    Dionysus October 2, 2008, 1:30 am
  • I was, for once, not Stuck Working tonight, but instead out drinking and getting gloriously sh*t faced as I watched the Sox take it to the Angels.
All I can say is: HELL YES. If the Sox can beat the Angels, they’re winning the Series again. Book it. Eat it, Tampa.
(It’s still a big if, though it’s looking a lot better now.)

  • Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but how many people here want to see a Sox-Dodgers World Series, with all the former Sox (and ex-Yankee skipper) on the Dodgers?
All the off-the-field drama would make it more interesting. That’s for sure.

    SoxFan October 2, 2008, 7:24 am
  • not to take anything away from the sox, espec. ellsbury, lester, and bay, but…and maybe it’s just me…didn’t the playoff angels look an awful lot like the playoff yankees?

    dc October 2, 2008, 8:02 am
  • Agreed, dc. And they looked a lot worse once the Sox took the lead. It’s like they began thinking about all those playoff losses and tightened up, a la NYY in 2004.

    Paul SF October 2, 2008, 8:45 am
  • SoxFan, I don’t want to play the Dodgers in the WS. You know Manny would hit like 5 homers against us.
It would be cool to see Lowe and Nomar come back though.
