In Progress: Sox-Reds Gamer II

Jacoby Ellsbury led off with a single and took second on a wild pitch by Edinson Volquez, who is on the bump for the Reds in the top of the first. Wake manning the rock for the Sox.

Comment away.

  • Some silent protest against interleague play in progress here?

  • Sox up 4-2 in the bottom of the 8th. Another solid start for Wake. Oki starts the inning by giving up a single to the Reds’ number 8 hitter, strikes out the next guy, walks Jay Bruce. And gets removed for MDC. Tito with the quick hook here. But the damage may already have been done.

  • And a run scores on the first pitch by MDC. 4-3 Sox, tying run on third.
And then Junior grounds into a double play. Big sigh of relief.

  • In the top of the 8th Demarlo Hale sent Lowell from third with nobody out. Lowell was out at the plate by a mile. Would have been nice to have that run.

  • No insurance in the 9th though Pedroia gets a single. He’s 2-5 today.
    Papelbon time.

  • Pedroia throws out Dunn. Two down.
    Encarnacion up.

  • Paps is one strike away and then Encarnacion ties it with a home run. Damn.

  • And suddenly Paps can’t throw strikes. Walks Vatto.

  • Should be Votto.

  • Youk, the Cincinnati kid, homers to give the Sox the lead. And while I type this Coco of all people goes back to back. 6-4 Red Sox.

  • Brandon Phillps flies out to J.D. Drew. Game over. Wow, that was way more difficult than it should have been.
Hope the Celtics will have less difficulties in closing out the Lakers tomorrow. Beat L.A.

    I couldn’t agree more, but…

Any time you get a starting line like that, you have to be happy, win or lose. Pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching.
Congrats to Youk and Coco, the only thing more exciting than back to back homers, is back to back homers in extra innings.
Good time to be a Boston sports fan, that’s for sure, it’s almost getting absurd.

  • **Yes, I’m a little tipsy. Over served at the Tapas bar, that Sangria really sneaks up on you.
