I’m back from Vegas and a certain part of my soul is staying there. It was worth $600 and it believed that the Yanks could sweep a lousy doubleheader from the damn Marlins. Oh well. As further punishment for my hedonistic excesses I have been assigned the task of posting this gamer. If the Sox played in the NL, they’d be the best team ever. They go for their billionth win in a row. It’s 0-0, but the Sox are threatening in the second. Comment away!

Oh. Here it is.
ask and you shall receive, MM
Ah, back at the desk, and MLBtv looks more stable than normal. Come on, Papi!
Nice pitch by Lidle freezes the big man. 0-0 after 3.
Hey, SF, how be things? I was wondering, considering your other area of expertise, what your favorite building was in Las Vegas. It’s quite a site after all.
Hmm. Tough one, Nick. I’ve been several times, and find LV fascinatingly perverted. I actually enjoy going, for about 48 hours max, at which point I want to bash my head into a wall from all those slot machine noises, the ones that haunt you even to your gate at the airport. I think my favorite building (if I have a “favorite”), is probably the MGM Grand at night – kind of Soviet modern, eerily futuristic, intimidating, and artificial.
Wake works out of a 4th inning jam. Manny leads off the bottom of the inning with a K. Come on, guys, it’s Cory Lidle…
And Nixon swings at and pops up the first pitch. Bad Trot!
Oof, Lowell with the weak pop to second. Bats gone DEAD.
I feel vindicated. Actually, my buddy’s girlfriend and I should feel vindicated. We got into arguments with my friend and my girlfriend about the best building in Las Vegas, and she and I agreed that it was the bizarre green building with the golden lion insignia. They found it too brutal and unwelcoming. We were drawn by its oddness.
one recommendation: Go to Vegas in the winter. 111 degrees actually feels like 111 degrees.
Wake breezing…
Wow, this game is flying. Come on, Youk!!!
2-1 to Youk. I might send A-Gone here, see what happens.
3-1 to Youk…
Youk works the BB. 1/2 2 down.
Drat, Cora grounds out to 2nd. Wakefield back to getting no run support. Literally. No runs.
Wake sets them down quickly. Bottom 6, still no score.
Papi leads off with a walk. Manny up, 0-1 the count.
Manny! Singles to right. 1st and 2nd, nobody out for Trot.
Don’t you guys realize this is all a setup for Ortiz to hit the walkoff for the 1-0 win?
Mikey!
uh…make that the eventual 2-1 win…
Lowell drives in Papi with the single to right. What were the Phillies doing on that relay, though? Sloppy – looked like they figured Papi would hold at third so the throw got cut off, Papi sneaks in under a late relay home.
Coco!!! Double drives in Manny. 2/3 one down.
I hate the NL East.
Dougie! Singles on the first pitch, giving the Sox a 3-0 lead. 1/3 still one out.
beli keeps the momentum going. big inning.
A-Gone! Single to right, scoring Coco. 4-0 Sox, still one down, still 2 men on.
bathroom break my ass. he is going to the other feild like a .320 hitter.
Youk!!! Another run on the RBI double. 5-0 Sox, 2/3 one out…STILL.
youk doubles. wheels keep on turning at the bottom of the lineup.
Loretta hits one that the pitcher can’t field cleanly, it squibs out towards short for an infield hit. Bases plugged.
Papi looking a little lost right now, count at 2-2.
gamecast lies. and then stalls.
Papi check swings, the ball heads out towards first. He drives in the run to make it 6-0, no play at home possible.
Manny intentionally walked.
manny IBB’d to face trot who’s hitting .307 w/ RISP. who pops out to short.
Trot hacks away at the first pitch, again. Pops up, inning over.
wake has found his one inning every start where he walks the bags full with no outs.
Seanez in.
a message to you rudy…”get some outs”.
Line single to right. This is not looking very good at the moment, like the 6 run lead could evaporate very quickly. Seanez fell behind Victorino 2-0, it hurt, and now he’s behind Rollins.
Oooh, how was that line shot by Rollins foul? There’s like an inch of foul ground down near the Pesky pole. Looked fair on the fuzzy, 480×320 pixel image on my computer…
tito sees SF’s post about managing well recently, puts in seanez out of spite.
Bases clearing triple for Rollins. Seanez has nothing today. Lift him, Tito.
Piss poor effort by Seanez today. So much for saying nice things about him. He had nothing at all.
i was wondering where the fight in the phills was. they came back in all those games against the yanks.
I hate Rudy Seanez. He sucks to no end.
this is ugly. go ahead run to the plate, no outs.
Lopez walks the first guy he faces. This is going very far south. Trot’s first pitch swing looks even dumber now.
Tying run on second, one out now. Howard up at the plate. I am very very scared.
We have to remember that Wake set this inning up, and with a six-run lead to full the bases so quickly is pretty bad stuff. Seanez was terrible, but he came into the worst situation possible.
And Lopez Ks Howard! One more out, please.
IBB to Rowand. Timlin coming in.
Tito is putting the lead runner on base, with Pat Burrell ready to pinch hit. This is a very questionable move, as far as I am concerned. Lopez will/should get lifted now, and an extra-base hit will give the Phillies the lead instead of simply tying the game. I don’t get this one. Thanks for making my earlier post look stupid, Terry.
Shit, Timlin is inheriting two runners. Not a good thing.
Remy says Burrell is 1-10 career against Timlin, meaning this is either a very good move, or Burrell is way overdue.
2 quick strikes. Come on, Mike…
K!
Timlin :D strikeout swinging
Nice. A horrible inning from just about everyone involved, but at least the lead is still intact.
thank you mike. tim thanks you too. lets get some runs.
Coco with the bunt single! I’ll take it.
Nice bunt from Coco for a single. I hope Tito doesn’t get too excited and move him back to the leadoff spot just because of that hit.
Coco caught stealing. Damn.
Coco gets nailed with the catcher throwing from his knees. Nice throw.
looking Doug’s photo here: Could someone let him know that the soul patch is gross.
The Sox are winning, but all of a sudden it feels like they’re down by 8. Talk about the life being sucked out of a game in about 10 minutes.
Hopefully they can hold on, at least get the ball in Paps’ hands with the lead.
Lol, Nick.
Urgh. Two-out double.
Pap coming in for the 4-out save.
Grounder to first. Pap rocks.
Three more outs to go for JP. A couple of insurance runs would look good here, as long as they don’t mean that Paps has to sit on his ass for like 1/2 hour getting cold.
these last two innings has had me on the verge of a mikulik fit.
does anyone know if the changed the error on lorreta in the 7th to a hit? MLB gamecast shows no errors for the sox.
Noooooo!!!!
oh no.
I think I may start hyperventilating.
That deserves a “I don’t believe what I just saw/read” comment. Paps is human. Who woulda thunk it?
Oof. Have to say I kind of felt that one coming.
full mikulik fit here in the office.
If Sammy Sosa and Jose Canseco had a baby, he would grow up to look like Bobby Abreu.
Paps not sharp today, obviously. Can you possibly have a short leash with this guy, considering his track record? It would seem no, but he did pitch 2.1 inning on Saturday and he clearly doesn’t have it today. Interesting decisions for Tito.
If this game goes totally south, then I have to say thanks to Wakefield and Seanez. For Wake to load the bases like that in the 7th was pretty inexcusable, and Seanez just poured gas on the fire. Everyone will point to Seanez, but it really starts with Tim, to be fair.
But who do you bring in? Timlin’s already been used. Delcarmen?
i’m going to go ahead and blame seanez for that.
K to Howard. One down.
Almost dp, but only get the out at second.
K.
Ok, end it here. Otherwise, we see Leatherface. And we know what happens when Leatherface shows up. Much blood.
table is set.
Papi up, of course. I can’t even fathom him doing it again. He can’t possibly do it again, can he?!?!
I’m with SF i felt a run comming of Paps. I just knew it, but I didnt wanna say it cause then I woulda blamed myself for it :( oh well,. he has a new scoreless innings streak going at 1 inning :)
I hate Chase Utley. I am going to scour the comments and find a few posts where I said this, weeks ago. Nothing that he has done today has made me hate him less.
I do have to question a few calls by Tito today, why didnt Tek bat for Mirabelli in the 7th? or Kapler for Nixon in the 6th, yea 6-0 lead is nice but should have gone for more and leaving Nixon in vs the lefty wasnt the way to go.
Kappy hitting for Trot. I know it’s a lefty, but I don’t love this decision.
UGH now he puts Kapler in for Nixon. :@
Sox going quietly here. This will not end well if they don’t score here, I don’t think.
utley isn’t even in the same realm of hate i have for vernon wells.
We’re done. Say goodbye to the winning streak, because I have serious doubts aboutour bullpen being able to hold up.
Aw, I can’t blame TIto for those, TJ. A 6 run lead with 9 outs to go and a rested bullpen should be relatively safe. This isn’t Tito’s fault. The only thing that might be questioned is a) bringing Wake back out for the 7th at all after a 40 minute break and 100 pitches. Other than that, you can’t really fault him; that lead, with this team, should be safe.
please no orc please no orc please no orc
I hate Ryan Howard. He did his best Papi impersonation last week and is a k machine against the Sox.
Tito clearly wasnt confident in the lead if he brought Loretta in to hit for Cora.
Your jinxes have no effect on Julian Tavarez, Nick. He has such little residual skill left that you don’t even need to bother with them.
damn
This game is going to end ugly, only fitting that the ugliest man on the face of the earthM is present.
no intended jinx. You guys were talking about players you hated because of their performance against the Sox. I was just giving the YF’s POV. Always necessary at this site.
One out. Quit while you’re ahead, Terry!! Can Kapler pitch!!?
QUIT WHILE YOU’RE AHEAD TERRY!!!! JEEZ!!!!!
Single and wild pitch, man on second with 2 down now. Come on, Tito – is there anyone else out there? Tavarez SUCKS. When will this be understood?
Walk to Rollins. My gosh.
MDC warming in the pen. Tavarez being left in.
Another one in the dirt. What game is Tito watching? Tavarez has nothing right now. If he gets an out, it’ll be luck.
2-0. Come on, Terry. WTF!??!?!
Wow. We better score now. Or I will seriously have a heart attack.
2-1, a foul ball that nearly killed someone down the first base line.
Phew. Youk grabs a grounder to end the threat. Egads that was dicey.
On that note, the Sox hitters all suck!! (Hey, it worked with the pitchers…)
I know he put together the team that broke the Curse and all, but I will seriously lose a lot of respect for Theo Epstein if he does not CUT JULIAN TAVAREZ TOMORROW!!!!
Ok, Mikey. 2-0. Send it for a ride.
Wow, that 3-0 pitch looked darn good, but Lowell gets the call. Leadoff walk. Manuel looks angry, and I think he should be.
No pinch runner for Lowell. Interesting. Lowell is SLOW.
IBB to Tek. Men on first/second, one down for Bathroom Break.
Ugh…this is so not cool. How did that happen????
The Baseball Gods hate us.
What just happened? MLBtv just DIED.
hard to pinch run for Lowell unless u want Ortiz at first losing the DH after Youk goes to third.
AGon lined out to Utley, turned into a dp.
Leadoff walk to Abreu. Howard up. Ugh.
K to Howard.
Oh no, YFs, Papelbon gave up a second run in almost 40 innings.
MY HOPES FOR OUR SEASON ARE DASHED!!!
Crap – blow caught stealing call by the ump at second. MDC comes through with a whiff for the second out of the inning.
Yes!!!! I love Manny Delcarmen!
Here comes Burrell to get the hat trick. How can you do that when A) you don’t start and B) PH for the DH?
Red Sox to God: “May we borrow some time please”?
God to Red Sox: “Yes. Two innings worth. That’s it.”
I suppose we should win it NOW.
Youk k’s. That’s no good.
Ump not calling the low strike – Loretta gets a good call to make it 2-0. Set the table, now.
Loretta with the double!!!
High drive!!!! OFF THE WALL! Double for Lo. Looked good off the bat, but just to the deeper portion of the wall. Papi up again with a chance to end it. Do they pitch to him!?
They walk him. Understandable.
IBB to Papi. Are they going to pitch to Manny?
The answer to that is a big fat “NO”. Manny’s turn. I might even be inclined to walk him, too…I know that’s suicide, usually, but what the heck.
looks like they’re pitching around him.
Just got home from work and had to sit there and watch Wake’s lead evaporate
Manny with the walk.
Manny spoiling some pitches. 3-2.
trot just needs to put it into the air deep.
Woops – I am behind! Bases plugged, apparently.
I adore Gabe Kapler, but this is why Tito should have left Trot in the game.
yeah…Gabe’s hitting. Really I caught that.
I dread the first pitch swing. On the other hand, that first pitch may be fat. I trust Trot…I trust Trot…I trust Trot…
(must keep repeating this)
Gabe, that is. Must trust Gabe…
How do you not get an ulcer watching this?
I looked through what happened. of course I see Seanez mixed up in the problems.
Grounder to short. Force at home. Two down.
Bad job, Gabe. That was a fat pitch, there. Gotta be trying to drive it somewhere, elevated. Darn it.
Wasted opportunities. We deserve to lose this game.
UGGGGGGHHHHH!
Bases are loaded with one out. We cannot squeeze home a single freakin run?
That sucked. All of a sudden the Sox have reverted to Minnesota form. Terrible, unclutch, frustrating baseball.
We deserve to lose this game.
Absolutely, positively. And this one is all on the players.
MDC gives up the lead-off hit.
Is anyone watching this game live?
I am watching on the internet. Not quite live.
I am. I wish I wasn’t.
I think this is our last inning, either way. But I think I know which way, unfortunately.
Pitching change. Must be Hansen. He’s the only one left.
I’m ready to agree with you, SF. This has been truly awful.
MDC did a nice job today, no matter what the result. He bought the Sox the chance in the 11th, should have gotten a win out of it this afternoon.
Did anyone beat Seanez when he walked back in the dugout? I know he came in the game with the bases loaded, but damn, a single and then a triple?
There it is. RBI double for Rollins.
DAMMIT!!!!
I don’t know about Hansen…maybe he needs a little more AAA time…but gotta see if he can do the job sometime.
And he can’t just this time.
This is a real crappy way for a 8 game win streak to come to an end.
It seems like everytime Hansen does come in he gives a run or puts them in position to score.
Just make it end, Baseball Gods, please just make it end.
Crisp, Tek and then A-Gon
Like I said, the Sox were on borrowed time. They are getting what they deserve. We could have won the game with a productive out, and don’t get it. The Phils need a hit, and it’s no big deal.
The Sox were due for a stinker like this, and it’s a shame that it had to come today, leading into the Mets series, since they had this one in the bag. The game’s not over yet, but being behind seems about right after these last six completely brutal innings.
The bad thing is that we could have gained another 1/2 game ont he Yanks. Just really sucks that we blow a 6 RUN LEAD.
NO BUNT ATTEMPTS. THEY KNOW IT’S COMING.
Plus we don’t have another off-day until the break, which is lovely.
MLB.TV keeps dying for half a second at a time and making my heart stop.
Coco with the ground-rule double.
Well, they had an off-day yesterday, Laura, so that’s neither here nor there.
Yeah, but our pen is spent after today, SF. They will now have no time off.
Way to go, Mr. Co.
Well, that’s not the schedule’s fault. It’s the “not being able to do mop-up duty with a six-run lead and save the best part of the pen’s” fault.
lester pitches tomorrow. So unless he takes some mega-mass 6000 and increases his innings pitched, we could have problems.
True, SF, I was just saying. Tek with the out.
Jeez, that’s fucking lame. Every bit of this (potential) loss is deserved. Everything.
Sorry about the F-bomb, but it’s been that kind of afternoon.
SF is worked up. Time to walk to the medicine cabinet and get the bottle of “ole grandad”
It’s going to take a lot to recover from this one.
Pop out. Pathetic.
Pop up to the catcher…sweet.
Youk!!
Come on Youk….kick me in the balls and end the day.
this has been one hell of a game……
one more inning boys!!!
Tie game.
Another piss-poor situational at-bat. That’s two. Tek’s was worse – all he needed to do was advance the runner to put more pressure on the pitcher.
Yeahhhhhhhh!
Yay, Youk! Darn that MLBtv delay!!
has anyone said how GREAT of an idea it was to make youk go to the top of the lineup lately??
cause it is :D
This is unreal….keep reeling you in for a sure kick in the ass.
That’s twice he’s saved the game from the last out this year, that I can remember (the other time he hit what turned out to be the game-winning homer against the Tigers).
Laura: now that bullpen is really gonna be gassed.
Looks like a potential Papi moment brewing.
SF: try watching a whole season of baseball on MLB tv :(
I don;t even know what to think right now. I was so resigned to losing this game. And now there is hope. Just wow.
He also got the “leg it out” single before Loretta’ 2-out walkoff on Patriots’ Day.
Ye of little faith…
Red Sox to God: “Please, can we borrow just one more inning?
God to Sox: “Yes. I hate the Yankees.”
Loretta with the walk. You know what that means…
Ortiz WILL bat! Walk him to load bases?
will they walk the bases loaded and take the risk on manny or will the walk off wonder do it again??
They’re pitching to Papi.
Papi, in this situation again.
I love Manny a lot, but I can’t remember many cases of him being “clutch” (no numbers in front of me). The most I can turn up in my mind is a HBP with the bases loaded to drive in the winner. And that hardly counts.
I imagine they will pitch veddy, veddy carefully to him.
Damn…everything is not updating
The Mets have got to be licking their chops watching this game…Regardless of the outcome, Sox ‘pen is shot.
D: what about the “Manny being Manny” return affair last year after that sitdown from Tito?
Papi!!!!
the walk off wonder DOES IT AGAIN!!!!
Oh you big sweet MFer
HE DID IT AGAIN!!!!
Oh my God!!!!
NO F’ING WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YES!
I still kick Seanez in the ass
Was that off the monster?
Wow. I am a flood of emotions right now.
In front of the Monster.
They just showed the winning hit on ESPN
Gapper, Rob. Left center.
Who says there’s no pressure with the game tied? If Papi makes an out there, the team is in dire straits, pitching-wise. He’s unreal, and I don’t think this “clutch” thing is just a figment of our imagination, like some statheads might say. And even if it is, WHO CARES?!?!?! It’s certainly an enjoyable figment.
You make a good point, SF. I forgot that one (one of my favorite Sox ABs ever), and it was nice, given the situation. There was a tie-breaking top of the 9th leadoff homer against the White Sox that won the game, but that seems less stressful than some ABs.
Once again…ORTIIIIIIIIZZZZZZ!!!
you know why a-rod is more valuable…..nevermind.
Keep in mind. The BP is smoke checked after today with a rookie pitching tomorrow. The good thing is that we did pick up that extra half game atleast for now. The leash needs to be short with the pen tomorrow.
Did that really just take almost five hours?
I have no idea how they are supposed to come back and play tomorrow after that. Lester’s gonna have to go CG or Cora is going to be throwing 1+.
Physically and emotionally draining… and that’s just me.
It’s really absurd at this point, just absurd.
Buy of course, there is not such thing as clutch, right stat heads?
I think that is his 21st hit of the season to put the team ahead. How many of slappy-mcblue lips have done that?
I think that tomorrow we will likely see Jason Johnson in the pen, despite the fact that Tito wanted to wait until his start on July 1 to pitch him.
What have we learned?
Papelbon looks a little more human
Ortiz looks a little more godlike
Seanez, Lopez, and Hansen all threw 15 or fewer pitches today, for what it’s worth.
Not sure if Paps looked human or tired. Only 2 runs he has given up this year. I can think of a bunch of teams (and one in pinstripes) who would kill for that.
Sox draft pick Bard starts tonite in the deciding game of the College World Series on ESPN.
You Sox fans will like this one:
clickety-click
If the M.V.P. were genuinely the MOST VALUABLE Player, the guy who is MOST VALUABLE to his team would win, not the guy with the best stats.
Old story, I know.
