It’s Getting Hot in Here: Blue Jays-Yankees Gamer

Ricky Romero has been hit hard by every Yankee but A-Rod so far in the first inning and the Yanks are already up 4-0 on hits by Jeter, Swisher, Cano, Jones, and a Teixera homerun.  The inning continues as the Yanks try to stake Kuroda to an even bigger lead and complete the sweep of the Blue Jays.  It is absurdly hot in the Bronx today, especially for Toronto.

Comment away.

  • Kuroda strikes out side in the top of the 2nd. Great game so far.

  • Jeter apparently hitting .389 off lefties this year. Nice.

GIDP by Swisher ends the 2nd. Not nice

  • Jays are swinging like crazy at Kuroda pitches. On a hot day like today, getting out of the inning with less than 10 pitches and throwing Romero back to the wolves so quickly is a plus all around.

  • Ouch – Lawrie hits metal and concrete in the camera well going after a foul pop and he’s being carried off the field. Man, the Jays are losing key pieces quickly. They probably feel like they can’t leave the Bronx fast enough. This is shaping up to be a disastrous series for them in more ways than one.

  • That looked bad…sick effort though for sure. That kid is good.

I took off to watch this game. I am fan. What can I say?

  • Do you live in the city IH?

    krueg July 18, 2012, 2:54 pm
  • Used to – we moved to a town called Larchmont 2+ years ago. It’s a 30-minute train ride to Grand Central and a nice quick trip to the stadium though I am not going as much these days due to work and family life getting busier and busier…

  • Hiroki is dealing.

The Jays are struggling but this is still good for confidence.

  • Where did you live?

My mother lives in Riverdale in the Bronx and I really loved the area when I went to visit last month. The wife and I are considering moving there.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hopefully this utter wrecking of the Blue Jays leaves them depsondent when they face the Red Sox this weekend…

…but I’m guessing it just gets them motivated. Stupid Red Sox. Stupid Yankees. Stupid Blue Jays.

  • Hey krueg. If you guys are thinking of having kids, then one of the primary things you want to consider is schools – and for the most part, the public school system in the Bronx is not good. There are some good schools in the city (beyond the absurdly priced and utterly-ridiculously-competitive-to-get-into private schools), but there is a big backlog of people for most of them and that means class-sizes shoot up. I am not steeped in Bronx-school system, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there are pockets where excellent public schools exist, but that’s the first thing I’d note to look for.

If you’re not thinking about kids, or you are so rolling in money that you’ll go the private school route, then you’d want to think about your commute, the neighborhood in terms of safety, things to do, etc. I think the Bronx may actually be the next Brooklyn in terms of increased investments, gentrification, etc. and all the good and bad things that go along with all of that. But I don’t imagine that taking hold for another 5-10 years really, if that.

Bottom line: the city is ridiculously expensive to live in. We only lived in Manhattan for 5 years because my wife’s job included subsidized housing, but even that became too cramped once we had our second child. If I were looking to rent or buy around the city now, I would not even look in manhattan despite the fact that I’d love to live there. I’d look at Westchester County (there are crazy expensive areas but also more affordable once like Pelham), outskirts of Brooklyn (though that commute can get long – Brooklyn is actually massive), and parts of Queens. I’d also consider (try not to gasp) New Jersey…

  • A-Fail.

    I just don’t know.

I hate him so much, he is almost impossible to like. BUT, he could find his swing and pull another ’09. I don’t know. I am so conflicted.

    krueg July 18, 2012, 3:29 pm
  • Thanks for the input IH.

We have no kids, nor are we planning on having any. The thing I liked about Riverdale was that the rent was MUCH less than Manhattan and I liked the little “town” if you will with all the restaurants, bars, stores, etc.

My wife is looking to try and get a post-doc at Columbia and if so, it’s about as 15 minute commute on the 1 train. I will be working from home so no big deal there.

Honestly, it’s a little scary thinking about moving to the City. I grew up in the suburbs of Buffalo and have been a suburbanite pretty much my whole life. I just love the energy of the City. It would be incredible to go to Yankee games, see all the concerts and just get to know NY. Living in Manhattan seems unrealistic just from the mere fact that paying $4000 a month for 1000 square feet would not work for us.

  • ANOTHER fucking E for A-Fail…

  • If he had any pride whatsoever…he would just retire.

Take his hundreds of millions…and fucking retire.

  • 6-0.

    Dwayne Wayne is a machine.

    krueg July 18, 2012, 3:48 pm
  • Swisher fails again.

    No surprise there.

    6-0 after 6.

  • I hear you krueg – and I hear riverdale is actually nice for the little town reasons you say – I have no first-hand experience so just don’ know. Do let me know when you make the move — we need to hit the stadium together…

    IronHorse - YF July 18, 2012, 4:00 pm
  • I would love that dude. Just understand I spent $200 on drinks in the Stadium!

But I am a happy drunk! Even though my posts might seem to suggest the opposite…

  • Raining

    Call it.

    krueg July 18, 2012, 4:12 pm
  • Went from hot as Hades to a suddenly pitch black thunderstorm with hail…yes, hail. Bizarre.

    IronHorse - YF July 18, 2012, 4:20 pm
  • Still hot as the sun here…well over 100.

I wish it was pitch black and raining with hail. Except that we picked up the wife’s new car today so maybe not. Hail here dents cars and breaks windows!

    krueg July 18, 2012, 4:30 pm
  • Rainout is official. SWEEP.

    attackgerbil July 18, 2012, 5:17 pm
  • Dhani Jones’ photo of the NY storm taken from his Delta flight is pretty sweet. But I thought those net connections were bad for jets or something. Maybe just bad for The Jets.

    attackgerbil July 18, 2012, 5:22 pm
  • We are on FIRE boys.

Let’s hope this isn’t another awesome regular season followed by a 1st round exit again…
