Keep Avoiding Embarrassment: Sox-Nats Gamer II

Continuing our theme from yesterday, a Sox win tonight will ensure a series win and stave off the horror and shame of losing a series to the Nationals. Get it done, boys!

Holy shit, broken bat and the ball both go right at Nick Green. The bat flies up and almost hits him in the face, he jumps up and blocks it with his arm. The ball goes into the outfield though.

Well, under the circumstances, that could have been worse. Sox are unlikely to get that run back this inning, though.

Maple bats, specifically Rock Maple bats, need to be banned. Do we really need a fan or player killed or maimed before we realize that these things are dangerous? How many wooden spears do we need to see fly through the air and land safely before we realize the law of averages is going to catch up? These bats need to go.
That was scary.
Big props to Green for staying with it as long as he did.

No, Ath, it’s never too early to mention that. But right now, I’m more concerned with Lester’s decidedly imperfect game.

Nationals broadcaster: “Zimmerman has grounded into 13 double plays this season.”
Wow, that’s a first class reverse-jinx right there!

Agreed Lockland. For a split second it looked like it was going to impale him in the face/neck.
Well at least we’re not the only team that’s having a perfect game pitched against us through 3 innings.

What the hell? Youkilis ejected quickly.
To be honest, Youk needed someone to tell him to STFU. He whines too much.

He said like 3 words from the dugout about the strikezone. Even the Nats broadcasters were surprised how quickly he was tossed.

And a nice opposite-field hit by Pedroia.
Aw, a ground rule double stops Pedroia at 3rd.

I’m surprised to see Drew is only hitting .250 — I thought he was around .280, but i guess he’s had a bad stretch lately?

He’s only hitting .250, but his OBP is like .386. He’s slumping a bit, but he’s not too shabby.

We never knew that about you, AG!
Great play by Lester to get the runner going home.

Hey Ath, I thought you said Lester was in his groove — why’d he have to go and make it interesting, huh?

Well, Lester turns in a quality start — had the potential to be another great one, though.

I don’t think Lugo’s getting into the starting lineup with an AB like that.

Sigh. I was going to say it’s good to see Masterson, but that wasn’t very good.

Aside from his HR, all of Varitek’s ABs have been inning-ending outs. Funny.

Feel a little queasy about having Masterson come back out, though I don’t think it’s the wrong call.

Sox’ offense disturbingly quiet. Sox’ bullpen disturbingly not quiet. Edge-of-your-seat game, this one.

Too bad the Yanks won’t lose. Perfect game for the first 5 innings, then 8+ runs given up after that.
