Sad nonetheless, especially considering the other two MLB deaths this week. They always come in threes don’t they? I remember his rookie season well as it was really the year that I became old enough to follow baseball. RIP Bird. He took the baseball world by storm. And was on one of the great SI covers of all time: http://elliottlarkfield.typepad.com/undergroundbaseball/images/2007/07/27/fidrych060677.jpg I’ll try that link again: http://elliottlarkfield.typepad.com/undergroundbaseball/images/2007/07/27/fidrych060677.jpg He was one of the many eccentric ballplayers that have come and gone in baseball over the years. IBM, funny how that cover windup looks strangely familar to the windup of another SI article subject: http://vault.sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1119283/1/index.htm Bill, I remember that S.I. cover vividly. Thanks for posting it. As to those of you who don’t remember Fidrych: Get offa my lawn, ya whippersnappers… Comments are closed.
