Jeez, Cash might want to get that CV ready for, say, April 4th? From ESPN.com:

Soon after the Yankees completed a historic collapse against Boston in the American League playoffs, volatile owner George Steinbrenner told Cashman, the team’s general manager, that he will not be fired before next season.

  • Interesting comment from Cash: “It’ll be pitching. I don’t think offense is a problem on this club.” Does that mean no Beltran? Hard to imagine he doesn’t get a serious look-see from the Bronxmen. Let the speculation commence.

  • Sox fan friend of mine said, about the “not fired before next season” quote:
“Steinbrenner’ll stick a nickel in cashman’s mouth every time he walks by his head mounted on a pike outside the stadium, and claim he’s still on the payroll”

  • Better question is was Cashman talking about the Yankees in YF’s quote, or about some other team he’ll be working for?
