$30 million dollar varnish.
This band-aid had to be ripped sooner or later. I’m not sure how I feel about it happening to A-Rod and not, for instance, to Granderson, who has – to me anyway – looked even worse at the plate. But A-Rod is their supposed clean-up hitter. And I will say this: it sends a long overdue message that this team needs to play people who will produce and not play paychecks. The difficult thing for Girardi is that he has got a ton of guys who are not producing right now. You could take your pick of who to bench.
After releasing the lineup, Girardi was asked if he thought that Alex had lingering health issues to which he replied, “no.”
He is removing money from the equation. Good for him. What else can he do?
Trade him to anyone that will take him…Miami? Eat half the salary.
From the looks of the photo, he’s already playing there.
