Boston, August 3rd (AP) – Red Sox Manager Terry Francona yesterday apologized to the entirety of Red Sox Nation, for "not being able to gain more ground on the Yankees during this 6 game winning streak" and for "blowing our chance to put other teams away by winning a bunch in a row".  Acknowledging some critics, including Murray Chass of the New York Times, Francona stressed that the Red Sox were "doing everything we can to gain ground in the standings at a clip of better than one game per day", even though baseball’s rules prevent that from ever happening.  "Perhaps the Commissioner’s Office ought to consider our wins worth two games in the standings" said the Bosox skipper, though Francona had no comment on how the Commissioner should value Yankees/Indians games.

  • Nice. I don’t know how we manage to hyperfocus on small details of the Sox all the time, forgetting the good, but we do it.

  • Where are those geniuses Gordon Edes and Dan Shaughnessy now? They wanted us to grab Bernie and pass on Damon. .245 vs .330.Glad nobody gave those two the keys to the car. I hope Manny wins the Series MVP again this year and the crow those two have to eat will take all winter.
We haven’t had a decent writer since Gammons left.

  • I don’t agree with at all you on Edes. I think he’s one of the best beat writers around. His work on the A-Rod/Sox soap opera two Christmases ago was some of the best stuff written in Beantown in years. No comment on Shaughnessy, though.
