On The HOF Menu: Goose with Rice?

The talk in the news is about Mark McGwire and his soiled candidacy, and on the automatic fist balloters Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken, Jr., but when the BBWAA announces it’s voting for Cooperstown enshrinement tomorrow, Yanks and Sox fans will have their eyes on two other deserving candidates: Goose Gossage and Jim Rice. We hope they make it.

  • I think Gossage is truly deserving, and Rice probably so. Both players intimidated the hell out of their opponents like no other contemporary either player had.

  • If Sutter got in, then there is no reason Gossage should not also be in.

  • Gossage is a good candidate on his own merits. Then you throw in the fact that Sutter’s already in and it really should be a fait accompli. Gossage >> Sutter.
