Pitching From The Stretch: Sox-Yanks Gamer I

Jake Peavy is on the mound for the Red Sox in Yankee Stadium, as the Yankees square off with their better and somewhat distant rivals, who are attempting to sustain their lead over the Rays in the Beast. Meanwhile, Ivan Nova and the Yankees are clawing their way towards a wildcard slot. This is September baseball. Comment away.

  • Ellsbury drives in the first run of the game in the 3rd with an automatic double (it’s called an automatic goddamn double, not a “ground rule” double, that’s reserved for when actual ground rules apply, like where on a specific fence counts as in or out of the park, or off one of the catwalks at the Trop) that also sends Middlebrooks to 3rd.

Nova just got the first out of the inning and is over 60 pitches…and it drove in another run.

  • Walking Jeter with 2 out to load the bases in front of Cano is a CARDINAL SIN.

  • Six-run 7th puts Yanks ahead 8-7. Can almost be happy for you, ag.

I’m livid, myself, of course. Literally shouting “FUUUUUUUCK” into pillows and pounding the mattress and unable to deal well with the kid’s bedtime routine.

  • Sox tie on a Drew single off Rivera with 2 out in the 9th. Then go ahead after a questionable non-strike call on Victorino in the 10th. Uehara just had an epic battle with Overbay for out #2.
