Posting this game thread makes me feel dirty. Hopefully the Rays make Chacon feel the same way. Have at it.

Just walked in the door to see Matsui’s running stab. No to the offense. Let’s go Johnny D!
Jeets. Continues the brilliant April. MVP!
Gathright. Killin’ us.
Giambi didn’t get on base which is shocking. Hendrickson should not shut us down.
Matsui’s struggling at the bat.
Posada fouls out to right, and Hendrickson is shutting us down. Why?
Crawford draws a 2-out walk, steal about to happen
Chacon kinda looks like Geoffrey Wright in his gamechannel photo.
Chacon doing well through 3. Now, the offense has to wake up!
In his gamechannel photo, Hendrickson looks like John Smoltz and Ben Roethlesberger’s love child.
good call
Bernie’s up. Man, it’s kind of sad what’s happened to him. I wonder if he quits before year’s end.
Bernie k’s, and Hendrickson is the next coming of Smoltz
Bernie’s hitting lefties well this year.
Good inning for Chacon. gets his first k and to ground balls.
Jeter! 2 for 2 now with a single to left.
Another wasted baserunner as Sheff hits into the DP
Ground rule double for ARod. Nice to see it. Hopefully Jason can get to hendrickson.
Hendrickson hits Giambi. Now would be a good time for Gozilla to snap his slump.
Nope. Ground ball to second. Inning over. Riding my bike downtown to catch the game on tv. See y’all later.
Wait, what? Who’s Mark Hendrickson? I’m sure this is a lot like the Sox getting nearly shut down by a guy with a 9 ERA. (Cept Chacon gave up ONE run so far, not 5.)
If the season keeps going like the last few games, this site is going to be a support group for these two teams.
Chacon doing a fine job tonight. Will the Yanks offense step up.
MVJ comes to the plate with 2 hits already this game. Looks at the first pitch for a strike, takes the next two pitches outside. Hendrickson didn’t like the call on ball two. Quick visit to the mound by Hall to get things straight. Next pitch is inside, followed by a pitch over the middle Jeter fouls to the right field stands. Payoff pitch: low, ball four. Jeter on base for the third time tonight.
Attack, I was waiting for your arrival. Take it away!
Sheffield hits the ball pretty hard that two-hops to Branyan. The ball squirts out of his glove and he can’t pick it up. Jeter had a good jump on the swing, but it might have been two since Sheff hits it so hard. First and Second on the E5. Arod up with one out.
2 on due to an error.
I go for a ride and you guys let Tampa score a run. Sheesh. :)
C’mon, Alex!
bases juiced!
Is it just me or do the Tampa Bay coaches and managers in all their green look like the grounds-keeping staff at a country club?
ARod walks to load them up for Giambino. TB has a social on the mound, and the ump comes out to break it up. Cmon, Jason. Time for your 11th Salami.
Ouch. Just called strike two on a breaking pitch at least 8 inches off the plate.
Yanks are on the board as Jason hits a slow roller to first, no play except to the bag. 2nd and 3rd, two outs to Hideki.
GODZILLA! A weak roller straight up the middle that he had to go a bit outside to reach. Clears the bases. 3-1 Yanks!
Come on, Hideki, break that slump!
yes!
What slump!?
Wiggington and Perez both layed out for that ball off the apron in shallow center. They wouldn’t have had a play at first but it would have held ARod at third; it squirted right between them. Neat hit to watch.
heading out of work. Keep it going, attack.
Hall hits a hard shot to the corner that would be a double in most cases, but he can’t run. Matsui gets the ball quickly to Cano, about 10 feet off the bag. Hall might have been able to get second. Hollins follows with a pop-out to right and that will be all for Chacon as Torre comes out to the mound. A very respectable outing. He gets a standing O.
Another excellent outing by a pinstripe starter. He battled.
Regarding the single that gave up the run:
Was it a groundball? If not, could it have been caught?
Myers in for NY.
Rich, I didn’t see that play.
Gathright hits a shot up the line. Fortunately, Hall hasn’t learned how to run faster since he got on first and he holds at second. First and second with one out to Perez. YES networks keeps cutting to Chacon who looks like he wished he hadn’t cut his hair.
Two-hopper to A-Rod that brought him in off the bag. With speedy Gathright running from first to second, the only play was to first. Two away.
Crawford keeps reaching for pitches running away from him because of Myers sidearm delivery, but some he keeps putting a bat on it.
Finally, Myers throws one that Crawford can’t reach. That pitch must be hard as hell for lefties to deal with.
Had to deal with the kid. Back in it now. Torre sure got away with letting Myers pitch to a right with 2 on. Dodged a bullet there.
Meanwhile, Beckett getting lit up in Cleveland. On pace to be a very, very good evening.
Jeets!
Damon is on first, doesn’t get picked off or run on the pitchout. Nice to see that. MVJETER!! Doubles to the corner on the 1-2 and advances to third on the play at the plate! Damon Scores!
Position changes to start this inning: Phillips is at first, Crosby is in center.
Branyan looks very confused on his first swing against Myers. He lofts the second one to shallow center, and Robbie tracks it down; there was a bit of confusion between Crosby and Cano as to had the play but it worked out fine. With the right hander Gomes coming up, Torre pulls the lefty Myers and calls for Farnsworth.
Gomes comes up to face The Farnsinator, who rings Gomes up looking on a 98mph fastball.
0-1 pitch comes in, perfect strike, and the ump calls it a ball. Posada turns around to ask what was wrong with that pitch. The umpire wakes up and orders a coffee. Next pitch is swung on and missed. Then wiggington doubles to right center.
The Farns works an easy 8th. Mo in the 9th with a cushion? I’ll go for that.
Wiggington takes second on indifference. 1 and 1, two outs, top eight. Lee grounds out weakly to second. End of the inning.
Due up for New York in Bottom 8: ARod, Phillips, Matsui.
Rodriguez with a swinging K, followed by a fly ball to the track in right by Crosby. Mo is up in the pen.
Matsui flies out to straightaway center, maybe 385 feet. Heading to top of the ninth, Sturtze comes in to start the inning; Hall Hollins and Gathright are up for TB.
First pitch didn’t look so good at all. Second pitch was a strike at the knees. Third pitch, Hall lifts to left for a single. Mo is coming in.
First pitch is a strike. My favorite sign.
0-2 is gets away from Rivera but Posada reaches up and grabs it. 1-2 is a buzz pitch to set up the payoff. 2-2 is a popout to center, about 390 feet. Speedy Gathright grounds out to second. Hall is so slow he is nowhere near 2nd by the time Gathright is at first to prevent the DP. Norton grounds out to third to end the game. The Yankees win, ThaaaAAaaAAaa Yankees Win.
Hoot. So much for the Red Sox advantage. NYY, Bos, Tor will all be tied in the L column by nite’s end.
Last time I checked, the win column counted as well. You might well catch the Sox, but you do still have to.
