Rudy Giuliani: Red Sox Fan

This is the best news for this Yanks fan in 7 years. Rudy Giuliani has announced that he is rooting for the Red Sox, ending 60 years of Bomber fandom. From the AP:

"I’m rooting for the Red Sox. They are my new favorite team. I will no longer poison Yankee Stadium with my presence. Instead, in future baseball telecasts you will see numerous shots of me sitting next to Stephen King and his hairy son," the Republican presidential contender said.

Full disclosure: I made up parts of this story, but the general gist is true.

Great. We think we are finally rid of the greatest threat to our salvation only to discover we’re stuck with the Super Devil.

  • Dear lord. This is the worst sort of pander… Sox fans (usually) can respect a Yankees fan who’s loyal to his team, but a YF who acts like an SF goes down several notches, for most of us anyway. And I know it’s not impossible, though it is a bit unusual, for a YF to root for the Sox in the playoffs, but why make a big deal about it?
Nevermind that it’s completely irrelevant to the office he is seeking.

Yeah, that’s just what we need Rudy pledging his fealty to the Red Sox, that man is pathetic and desperate…

  • To: Rudy Giuliani
    From: Red Sox Nation
    RE: Team Loyalties
    Mr. Guiliani,
We have reviewed your application, and unfortunately cannot agree to accept your support at this time.
Sports fandom is not like one of your marriages—it cannot be discarded to casually hop into the bed of your most bitter rival. To put it another way, if you do not win the Republican nomination and Hillary Clinton asks you to be her running mate, would you accept? Actually, do not answer that.
In addition, we here at RSN admit to being somewhat overwhelmed by the rush of new applicants the past few years. This has resulted in several regrettable “celebrity” admissions, and we are attempting to institute tighter controls to avoid repeats of these unfortunate mistakes. Since you believe yourself to be the 4th or 5th most famous American in the world, rejecting your candidacy is all the more important.
In closing, we wish you and the New York Yankees continued disappointment and frustration in the baseball arena. If this recent episode is any indication, you will likely have similar experiences in your political ambitions.
    Sincerely yours,
    Sox fans everywhere

  • “I’m a [Republican] fan, and I go with the [GOP candidate], maybe with the exception of [Joseph Lieberman]. Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn’t because I’m loyal to [d-bags].”

  • Rudy needs better political advisers. A Republican has a decent shot at carrying Colorado, and no chance at carrying Massachusetts.

  • Dude, Federline. Michael Bolton.
Serve harder. You fall into this trap every time…

  • When Bolton and Federline are doing MLB ads, call me.

    YF October 24, 2007, 10:33 am
  • I mean really. Dane Cook has surpassed everyone as the most annoying hack in America. Somehow, he’s managed to become more annoying than Carlos Mencia.
As Bill Simmons lamented, how did America’s most popular comic become Cook when just two years ago it was the talented and brilliant Chappelle?

  • JoshA, I sent your post to my son (at college) – he appreciated it hugely.
As for Rudy, all I can say is that the terrorists have finally won, and that Dubya and Biggus are no doubt planning an amphibious assault on Fenway Park.
And I say this as a Sox fan….

  • But we have the Cook antidote, the kryptonite to your Dane-obsession:
DAVID F*CKING CROSS. Eat it, YFs!!!

    Louis CK is the anti-Cook.

  • OMG! You guys obviously aren’t baseball fans; REAL baseball fans are loyal to their LEAGUE! Real Mets fans will root for the NL team over the Yankees in the WS; Ral Yankees fans will root for the AL team against the Mets.
Try to become a real baseball fan before you pose as one online.

    MaoSayTongue October 24, 2007, 7:30 pm
  • If he is really rooting for the Red Sox, then he is not a REAL Yankee fan. If he’s trying to kiss ass the Red Sox fans won’t respect him a supposed Yankee fan rooting for the Red Sox. This is a stupid comment. Do you want this person running the county? Not me!!!
