Run, Run, Runelvys: Royals-Yanks Gamer III

If you’re a pitcher, it’s probably not a good sign if your name starts with the word run. Too bad for Runelyvs Hernandez (1-3, 6.19, 39 hits in his last 25 ip) who takes the hill today for KC. (Next from the Royals: “Hi, I’m the new DH, Whiffly K. McStrikeout.”) So, yeah, the Yanks should be able to put up a few crooked numbers on the board this afternoon, and hopefully more than Jaret Wright allows. Wright had another good outing this week, results-wise, despite having his pitches routinely hit on the screws. Hopefully his luck, and ours, holds up on a lovely Bronx day. The sun is shining. The weather is calm. This is your place for comment on all the action. Swing for the fences….

  • 3up, 3down for Wright in the 1st. Nice start. Now on to the offense!

  • Johnny D. leads off with a dinger!!! Now THAT is how to start (and how to erase the memory of an 0-5 day).

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:18 pm
  • And Jeets pulls a single over short.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:19 pm
  • Sheff singles to right. Yanks now 3 for 3.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:21 pm
  • Giambi doubles. Yanks 4 for 4. Sheff to third. 2-0. None out. Here comes Alex.

  • Mr. Hernandez looks like a defensive lineman for KC Chiefs. Did he get lost on the way to a mini-camp? Pitching like one, too.

  • A-Rod blooper to right plates 2! Yanks 5 for 5. 4-0.

  • What’s the opposite of a no hitter? Sadly, Cano DP ends the fun.

  • Melkster on with the bb. Gotta love’ the Melkster.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:32 pm
  • MELKY!!!! Scores from first. Royals look like the Bad News Bears.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:33 pm
  • Great job by Bowa to catch KC playing dumb.
You know you’re in trouble when you’re getting walloped by Tlong. If not for the DP, there’d still only be 1 out.

  • Melky might just be my favorite Yankee at the moment. Go Melky!

    yankeemonkey May 28, 2006, 1:35 pm
  • Awww, Hernandez yanked. Darn.

    yankeemonkey May 28, 2006, 1:37 pm
  • And the Yanks have now run, run, Runelyvs from the game. He didn’t get much help from his teammates, and was snakebit by a few flares, so perhaps he wasn’t as bad as his line…but he was pretty bad.
And Stinnett finds a gap. Bottom of the Yank order continues to order.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:38 pm
  • And Wright comes out throwing strikes with the big lead. Thankfully. Not something Yankee pitchers have been doing of late. Let’s hope he keeps it up.

  • And a collosally stupid play from Emil Brown (how does this guy have an ML job, anyway) to get thrown out at 3rd w/ 2 outs after golfing an 0-2 curveball into the leftcenter gap. Melky fell on his bum fielding it (funny!) but recovered quickly enough to have Brown by a mile at 3rd. Another horrible mental error by KC.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:45 pm
  • And to cap it off, Emil picks his nose on camera! Perfecto!
Meanwhile, Jeets singles over the second baseman, his second spray hit of the day.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:47 pm
  • Even when Melky makes a mistake, he comes out on top. Melky is awesome! Doesn’t he have a bunch of OF assists already?

    yankeemonkey May 28, 2006, 1:47 pm
  • Sheff rips one to left. First and second, no outs.

    YF May 28, 2006, 1:48 pm
  • Pulled away. Yanks get another on the Cano sac fly with the bases juiced after A-Rod IBB’ed.
    Wright continues to thrive.

  • Greetings. Farns survives a scare. I can’t believe we let the Royals back into this game.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:38 pm
  • Peralta in for KC

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:39 pm
  • Jeter is down 0-2. Gets rung up on a check swing.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:41 pm
  • Sheff steps in. One away. First pitch is outside, but not by much. That’s been a strike earlier. Next pitch is low and away. Two-and oh is a breaking ball for a strike. 2-1: hit hard at third. Sheff is out on the 5-3 from Grud+ just off the line.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:43 pm
  • Phillips steps in and takes a ball, then a strike. The 1-1 is a strike looking on a change-up. Phillips fouls the 1-2 back.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:44 pm
  • Another foul. Then a slow roller to third that Grud plays very well bare handed to throw out Phillips. Nice play. Inning over. NYY 6, KC 5. Need a hold here.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:45 pm
  • Arod makes a play looking straight into the sun on the high pop to record the first out.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:49 pm
  • High pop to right. Sun was a minor issue but Long makes the catch. Good inning.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:50 pm
  • Dessens is on the mound for KC. Induces a pop-out from ARod. Cano up, takes strike one.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:53 pm
  • Rivera is warming for NY as Cano takes a low and away to bring the count even 2-2. Cano pops out to short. Two away to Cabrera.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:54 pm
  • Cabrera on the 1-2: In the dirt. Deuces across the board. Outside to bring the count full. Payoff pitch: chases a bad pitch to hit a comebacker to end the inning.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:56 pm
  • Mo is on for NY, trying to hold a one-run lead as we go to the top of the ninth. Grud steps in.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 3:59 pm
  • Mo leads with an off-speed for a strike.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 4:00 pm
  • Cano makes a nice catch on a 2-2 popout up the first base line at the end of the tarp. Long run. One away.

    attackgerbil May 28, 2006, 4:02 pm
  • Mientkiewicz grounds out on the 0-2. Two away. Comebacker from Costa ends the game. Final: NYY 6, KC 5. Nice, Mo!
