Santana Wins AL Cy: Wang in Second

Congratulations to Johan Santana, an easy selection as the AL Cy Young award winner. (He was the only pitcher to receive any first place votes—28 of them.) Yankee Chien-Ming Wang narrowly beat out Roy Halladay for second place by pulling 3 more second-place votes (15-12), even though Halladay scored twice as many third-place votes (12-6). Thanks to the weighted scoring, Wang had an overall score of 51, Halladay 48. I’m sure it’s a happy night in Taiwan.

  • Congrats to Wang for being the best pitcher not named Santana!

  • Yeah, the kid had a good year, but hopefully some of those ground balls, which is every batter in the box all year, find some holes next year – D-Lowe style.

  • If the writers had any real smarts about their votes, Santana would be working on a threepeat this year. Oh well.
