Wasted opportunity: Ellsbury crushes the ball, and Pedroia flies out, both well hit balls but with no paydirt.
I like this strategy of not letting Crawford on base.
12 pitch 1-2-3 inning for Lester against Upton, Crawford and Longoria. Nice.
Papi with an almost home run to Gabe Kapler.
Very easy inning for Kazmeir. Not nice.
Wow, that game got away from Lester quickly. 5-1 Rays and still nobody out in the fifth.
Well, a pitcher’s duel through four and then Lester can’t make it out of the fifth. 7-1 Rays, runners on 1st and 2nd, only one out, Hunter Jones coming in. Bummer.
That inning started out with Lester giving up three cheap grounders, and then it all fell apart. It seems like every bad inning this year starts off with cheap hits.
I find it annoying that two of Lester’s three well-pitched games came against the Yankees.
The Verducci effect in is full swing.
Sox get two in the bottom of the 5th, but Varitek leaves them loaded. 8-3 Rays, some sixth inning magic desperately needed.
Sixth inning magic confined to two runs (after the Rays scored five in their half of the inning). Jason Bay inexplicably misses a chance for a three-run-homer. 13-5 Rays. Way to go, Sox!
This is where Lopez should be seen on the mound: in a 13-5 blowout.
Longoria with 43 RBI, on pace for 225 in the season (record: 191)
Wow McCarver knows absolutely nothing:
“Manny Delcarmen seeing some action. They want him to come into the game in a mop-up situation because they want him to build up confidence. They’re hoping he can really help them in the future.”
Manny Delcarmen 2009 stats: 0.59 ERA
Stats the last three seasons: 2.56 ERA
Thankfully this travesty is over. Hope you all spent quality time with your kids …
PWNED!
Gave up after bases loaded Rays in the 5th at 2-1. Wise decision.
