Saving Face: Halos-Yanks Gamer IV

Andy Pettitte had his shortest outing in more than four years in his last start, getting knocked around for eight runs by Oakland on July first.  He’s back on the bump today for the Bombers as they face the Halos, who visit The Stadium for a three-game set.  AP has yet to face the Halos this year, who are 3-3 on their current road trip, taking two of three from Baltimore then dropping two of three in Texas.  New York is winless against Anaheim this season after being swept in three games in May and being outscored 17-10. 2005 CY winner Bartolo Colon is on the mound for the Halos.  Colon took the loss when he allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings to Baltimore in his last start.

Alex Rodriguez is in the lineup tonight after getting a day off yesterday; in 2005, ARod hit three homers off of Colon in one game and has eight lifetime in 45 at bats.  Johnny Damon starts in left field today for the first time since 2001; Melky’s in center while Matsui is the DH.

  • Sox fans, pay careful attention. This could be the team that eliminates your team in the post-season.

  • The Damon switch is interesting and points to Melky becoming a full-time starter from this point on.

  • Bartolo “when I face the Yankees I pitch like what’s inside my” Colon goes for the Angels tonight. This game is a foregone conclusion.

  • Bartolo Colon reminds me of Diego Maradona.
    That is, Maradona today.

    SF July 6, 2007, 7:32 pm
  • One of the bigger injustices in post-season hardware distribution has to be Colon’s Cy Young award. Not quite a Palmeiro Gold Glove (achieved while primarily DHing), but it’s up there.

    SF July 6, 2007, 7:36 pm
  • Like I said earlier, Colon is useless against the Bombers.

    SF July 6, 2007, 7:40 pm
  • so much for that early lead.

    nyara July 6, 2007, 8:16 pm
  • Like I said, without jinx intention: Colon is useless against the Yankees. What a turd.

  • Horse crap call. Horse Crap, he touched 3rd.

    John - YF (Trisk) July 6, 2007, 9:02 pm
  • Agreed John. Horse crap.
I wonder how many runs Pettitte has to give up before Joe goes and gets him.

  • $10 play, .50 cent throw….

    John - YF (Trisk) July 6, 2007, 9:07 pm
  • Cairo makes a great stab, but then throws a bit behind Pettitte covering first. Scored a single then E3 on the allowed run. Finally Joe comes and gets him.

  • Haven’t had the pleasure of seeing this Edwar kid, this should be interesting.

    John - YF (Trisk) July 6, 2007, 9:08 pm

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:09 pm
  • First time seeing him as well.

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:10 pm

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:13 pm
  • Ok AG one problem, nice change speed wise and deceptiveness wise, but tooooo much of the plate. Needs to be low and away.

    John - YF (Trisk) July 6, 2007, 9:15 pm
  • Willits Ks. Now he starts Figgins off with consecutive changes. Fun.

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:15 pm
  • That one was low and away, perfect!

    John - YF (Trisk) July 6, 2007, 9:16 pm

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:16 pm
  • third pitch to Willits that is.
Damn. Now Figgins golfs a single. Tie game.

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:17 pm
  • If Ramirez gets Figgins, does that make it turning point #449 for the season?

    SF July 6, 2007, 9:17 pm
  • Whoops, so much for that turning point.

    SF July 6, 2007, 9:18 pm
  • Yeah I was.

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:19 pm

    attackgerbil July 6, 2007, 9:44 pm
