Should NY Keep Sheff? Should Petey Go DRARP?

New York has a decision to make regarding Gary Sheffield. My bet? Bye, Gary. Personally, I will miss that swing.

Pedro Martinez says he might retire if his shoulder does not return to full strength. I will miss that stretch of being a YanksFan and being more excited about him as a pitcher than any other hurler in the game.

Sammy wants back in the bigs. My guess, someone will offer him a million with incentives non-guaranteed.

Mo hearts ARod, and Moose’s agent thinks it would be nice if New York pays him and his pitcher money.

Jeter thinks that one of his personal accolades that he does not care about is a great honor.

  • Um, why would the Yankees want to keep a 38 year old, grumpy, poor defensive outfielder coming off wrist surgery? Let alone for 13 million per. Did I mention the wrist surgery – the hardest to come back from?
Wait, no it makes perfect sense, and I say do it!!!
The Yankees will have to eat nearly the whole contract to get any sort of value back in return, and even then, they’re not going to get quality pitching. Maybe a young outfielder or positon player who’s in a logjam somewhere else, but no way do they get a guy they can slip into the rotation or trust out of the bullpen.
Also, if Pedro retires my favorite player of all time will have retired. That makes me feel old. But, I will say that I hope he does it. Every pitch he throws reminds the masses of what he used to be, and how far off of that level he’s fallen, and that’s sad. Like Michael Jordan missing shots with the Wizards – it’s hard to swallow.
DC, do you consider the Pedro deal with the metros another big fish that the Red Sox didn’t pay enough for?

  • the Yanks would pick up his option to trade him. There have been reports that several teams are interested in making a deal. At one year, Sheff is a very attractive option to teams on the bubble. It makes sense to pick him up and take advantage of what seems like a pretty decent market for him.

  • Nick, I think you are right. I also think that Sheff will raise holy hell if he is made chum.

  • Also, obviously, he won’t end up on a certain rival’s team…

  • …brad, maybe theo got one right with pedro…i know the sox don’t know anything about loyalty, or you wouldn’t have criticized us for hanging on to bernie for another year, and you would’ve signed damon…he was worth it for this year alone, since he probably made much of the difference between 1st and 2nd, or was that 1st and 3rd?…by the way, i hear you guys are interested in getting jeff bagwell back…if you don’t remember him, he’s filed under “fish that got away“…
