So Long, Joe: Phils Win the Pennant

Cole Hammels was just too much for the Dodgers in Los Angeles last night, as the Phillies won the pennant for the first time since 1993, and on enemy turf. Some familiar trends in that series: questionable bullpen usage by Joe, and Manny absolutely raking in the postseason; he was a mindboggling 13 for 25 with 11 walks and 4 homers, including one last night in the losing effort, accounting for the only run LA could muster. They were a one-man team, and it’s pretty impressive how far that one man took them. In the end, though, you need a full roster.

In other news, Tom Tresh passed away on Tuesday. He was a fine player on some excellent teams, if always overshadowed.

  • nice quote from Manny last night:
“I just want to go home and spend some time with my family. I want to see who is the highest bidder. Gas is up and so am I.”

  • it won’t happen, but it would be funny if like barry bonds, nobody bid on manny…i’ve had this debate with my son…he thinks, and wants, the yanks to pick up that bum…thinks it’ll take pressure off of arod…i don’t want him and don’t think it’ll help…arod will just try that much harder to be the big wheel, and he’ll suck worse…plus, i see manny getting old quick, and we’ll be stuck with another crappy old-guy contract…
