Sox-Yanks Game One Post-Mortem

Some questions raised by tonight’s beautiful affair:

  1. Will Bernie Williams be suspended?
  2. Will Melky be on the roster on Wednesday?
  3. How many players (Yankee or Red Sox) are quoted in the paper tomorrow saying "it’s just one game" or "we have to forget this game and get ready for tomorrow" or "those runs only count tonight"?
  4. In the next two weeks will Randy Johnson a) pitch a 2-hitter or b) be DL’d?
  5. Will the Sox realize they still have two more games in this series?
  6. Will Joe Torre chastise Yankees fans for heartily booing both Randy Johnson and Alex Rodriguez?
  7. Why didn’t the Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post suggest that the Yankees "Drop A-Gon"?
  8. Bigger controversy: YF starting a new thread mid-game or my maintaining household harmony by having "American Idol" on while following the game electronically?
  9. Who gets sent home: Katharine McPhee or Chris Daughtry?

    6. Torre’s opinion right now to Yankee fans may not be too valuable.

  • All I know is that this game put Murray Chass out of a job. What will he write about now that the Green Monster standings are actually correct?

  • I’m going to keep saying it on this site until one of the Fs bans me, but Unit is dee-you-en – DONE! Finished as the pitcher he was, and too stubborn/stupid to adapt to new realities. Kevin Brown redux.

  • 1. Will Bernie Williams be suspended?
He probably should be, one game.
    2. Will Melky be on the roster on Wednesday?
The error looked horrible, and in the context of that great battle between Small and Ramirez was such a letdown, but he was 2-for-3 at the plate. He’ll play.
    3. How many players (Yankee or Red Sox) are quoted in the paper tomorrow saying “it’s just one game” or “we have to forget this game and get ready for tomorrow” or “those runs only count tonight”?
On the contrary, I think there will be a mea culpas flying in from every direction. Everyone stunk. And for all those people say take it easy, it’s only May, only one game, remember how the Division was decided last year.
    4. In the next two weeks will Randy Johnson a) pitch a 2-hitter or b) be DL’d?
Re-treading a post I made awhile back; RJ’s career numbers in April are about the same as his career average in general. The last time he had this bad of an ERA heading into May was when he was with the Diamondbacks, and he went on the DL at the start of May, staying on until July.
    5. Will the Sox realize they still have two more games in this series?
I certainly hope not, but I doubt Schilling will let them forget today.
    6. Will Joe Torre chastise Yankees fans for heartily booing both Randy Johnson and Alex Rodriguez?
His thousandth-win honeymoon was pretty short, no?
    7. Why didn’t the Mike Vaccaro of the New York Post suggest that the Yankees “Drop A-Gon”?
Good suggestion. While they are at it, they should plunk Lowell. At least it’s only one base instead of a double or a single with an error. That’s assuming the pitcher actually hits him and doesn’t miss has mark, throwing it to the backstop for a WP.
    8. Bigger controversy: YF starting a new thread mid-game or my maintaining household harmony by having “American Idol” on while following the game electronically?
I only watched Idol once. That was enough. Does anyone get to throw at Paula Abdul?
    9. Who gets sent home: Katharine McPhee or Chris Daughtry?
I don’t know about those two, but (this hurts to type) in the top of the third last night, Papi to first on the error, to second on the WP, and then he gets sent home from second on that single to left, beating a decent throw, made me realize he actually moves pretty well for a big fella.

Or the Sox know something about Matsui’s arm, AG.

    SF May 10, 2006, 11:32 am
  • SF, I have seen the future of domestic harmony, and it is TiVo. McPhee is gorgeous, and a goner.
