Sunday Night Baseball: Sox-Yanks Gamer

Jon and Joe bring the game on ESPN.  Josh Beckett goes for the Sox, while AJ is a scratch due to stiffness in his back resulting in Dustin Mosely picking up the start.  Comment away on your Sunday Night Baseball action.

It is getting a little overboard with these ESPN announcers and their admiration for how great the Sox have been playing is spite of injuries.
Let’s be real. For as much shit as YF’s get about the money spent, isn’t the lineup that the Sox are running out there today still better than all but maybe 1 or 2 teams in the league anyway? Regardless of injuries?

Got a grounder to Tex…it was a mistake too. The Sox rookie just missed it. Avoided the big inning. Whew.
How about getting him some fucking runs now, huh???

HR for Hall…here we go. 2-1. Moseley has completely fallen apart but we had PLENTY of chances to score early on Beckett.
We’re going to lose.

OK…big K for Beckett but Cash guns it into LF to try and pick off Cano at 3rd…5-1, 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs for Captain Clutch…
3-10 with RISP.

6.2 innings for Moseley. 1 run. Great job dude.
Joba coming in…is 6 runs a big enough lead??? 1st and 3rd, 2 outs and Lowell pinch hitting.

Joba tried to give it back…man he is terrible.
So now Logan is in, bases loaded, 2 outs and a 7-2 score. Could have a new game right here…

“…AJ is a scratch due to stiffness in his back resulting in Dustin Mosely picking up the start….”
well gerb, that was the yankees’ official explanation, but i can’t help thinking that joe realized burnout wasn’t his best choice for the pivotal game, not because of a stiff back, but rather, because he is a stiff…moseley was a pleasure to watch…hopefully hughes can put the cherry on the sundae this afternoon…taking 3 of 4 after losing the 1st game would be nice…

I’m really glad I can’t watch this game today…Hughes is fucking finished. They completely destroyed him ala Joba with the ridiculous fucking rules. So now, rather than having a great young pitcher for however long we could have ridden him, we now have years of mediocrity. Awesome. Great job Yankees front office. Fucking brilliant.
Splitting the series is par for the course with how terrible we’ve been playing the last few weeks.
Might as well throw him back in the pen when Pettitte gets back and put Moseley in his spot. At least Moseley eats innings if nothing else.
Fucking Mondays.

This game is over in the 2nd…walks the fucking bases loaded with 1 out. 51 pitches so far…you suck Hughes but it isn’t your fault.

Had the pleasure of catching last night’s game at the stadium with my brother. Don’t take this personally SFs, but next to Cliff Lee there is no pitcher I’d rather see pummeled than Beckett. I guess it is sort of a compliment in that he – like Lee – has had his moments against New York in big games, but it’s also because I honestly see that guy as a punk. Like Clemens before him, he seems to hit guys coincidentally whenever he is having a bad day (yesterday it was Cano) but then acts as if he would never do such a thing when the other team retaliates.
As for today, it certainly doesn’t look great so far in terms of pitch counts, men on base, hits, errors, etc, but in terms of the bottom line, a 2-run deficit this early in the game is no big deal. Let’s see if Hughes can get it together before getting driven out of this game in the 4th or 5th inning…

Is it too soon to point out that Lester has a no-hitter going here? I say again, a NO-HITTER! In the year of the pitcher it is perhaps not surprising that Lester is NO-HITTING the Yankees.

“…there is no pitcher I’d rather see pummeled than Beckett…”
hehe, yeah
“…I honestly see that guy as a punk….”
yep
lester sharp today….no-hitter through 3…just thought i’d get that out of the way…

I don’t know dc – admittedly I’m only following on gameday, but Lester has thrown as many balls as strikes (29 of each), which isn’t the typical ratio of a guy who is really on. Having said, that, he is certainly befuddling the Yanks so far.

Not much longer…
I hope we do get no-hit. Maybe that will wake up their sorry-asses. The bats have been garbage this season. They basically rely on the HR’s like the mid-00’s when we couldn’t get out of the ALDS. I don’t like it.

Mostly agree krueg, but they do have the best record in baseball man – don’t go hurting yourself (or anyone else!).
Having said that, yeah – I would not have expected the hitting sand-outs this year to be Brett Gardner, Nick Swisher, and Robinson Cano (OK, maybe Robbie). Jeter is having a very off-year. A-Rod is driving in runs but the average is pretty horrible, Granderson has been horrendous (at the plate) with the excption of about 8 or 9 great games, and Teixeira is now about 6 weeks into playing to his potential, which is nice to see but would have been nicer a bit earlier.

IH, it’s kinda like how everyone is saying how great the Sox are doing in spite of injuries. Even with their injuries, the Sox have a better lineup than all but a few teams and should still be able to win…
That being said, we should win every game 15-0!!! ;)

yea dc, Damon would have been a fine player for either side this year…but with the random outfields the sox have thrown out there, he would have been a great signing. Cameron we has for another year (38 and counting) and Damon would have only been a 1 year deal (8 mil with detroit, i believe),geez

The Yankees are fucking garbage right now. Tell me this team doesn’t look just like the 04-08 teams. Can’t string hits together, live and die by the HR, crappy bullpen, suspect starting pitching…yet all the talent in the world. I will be fucking AMAZED if we get out of the ALDS. The hunger is gone. Splitting with the Sox at home, without their 2 best players is unacceptable.

wish i could disagree with you krueg buddy, but i can’t…not just the hunger, but the passion for winning and killer instinct the early torre teams had is just not there…like you say this team is starting to remind me of the later torre teams, who just sat back and waited for somebody else to get the big hit…i keep hearing about us being in first place, best record, blah, blah, but the team is underperforming, with very few exceptions…that’s when it becomes difficult to counter the money spending and entitlement rants from the fans of other teams…money well spent is one thing, but we have aj burnout [sorry to single him out, but…] for 3 more years at $50m…i guess we could get hot again and string together some wins, but right now this team is painful to watch…and the excuses and spin for the underperformers are even more painful…

Yep. All the outside talk doesn’t matter about the best record, etc. Bottom line? Is this team going to bring it home…right now the answer seems to be no.
