Sweep or Get Swept: A’s-Sox Gamer X

Seems like that’s all there is with these Sox of ours. Win three, lose three. Today Daisuke Matsuzaka tries to bounce back from a terrible outing and Jason Bay tries to continue to make us all forget about some guy in LA. Comment here.

  • Schedule getting seriously easier overall though, so I expect this to change. As I do with the others in this division.

  • I remember thinking the same thing in 2006, Brad.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 1:42 pm
  • Holy crap Dice-K squeezed on the final pitch of that at-bat. Replay shows it perfectly in the corner.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 1:43 pm
  • I love Pedroia so much. Lead-off double.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 1:47 pm
  • Youk doubles, Red Sox up 1-0.
It’s amazing what the offense can do when they don’t have Ellsbury/Coco leading off.

  • Tigers get the bases loaded against Tampa but can’t score. Bah.
Daisuke gives up a lead-off triple but gets out of it, though he’s at 43 pitches after 2ip.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:12 pm
  • you watching or listening Ath?

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 2:13 pm
  • Daisuke strands the leadoff triple, in his typical 10-pitches-per-batter style.

    Paul SF August 3, 2008, 2:14 pm
  • Yep, always need extra rolaids when Dice-K is on the mound.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 2:21 pm
  • Daisuke out of the 3rd on 10 pitches, very nice!

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:26 pm
  • I’m watching, RBF.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:27 pm
  • LA writers seem unconvinced that they’re seeing a reformed Manny, particularly in light of Manny’s declaration that, after two games, he wants to finish his career there, as well as his comment that he can go out to eat in peace.
    In LA.
But I gotta say, it’s been pretty galling to see him flying down the first base line and going from first to third on a single to right. I’m pretty sure those dreads were verticle behind him, which I’ve never seen before.

  • WOW, chopper up the middle, 2nd baseman barehands it AMAZINGLY but then throws it away. Ellsbury to 2nd.
I cannot explain how great of a barehanded grab that was.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:30 pm
  • Bill, Manny said he wanted to finish his career in LA? Wow. Don’t the Dodgers know he told the Sox that like a month ago?

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:31 pm
  • Sorry. Horizontal …
Lemme find the quote, Ath. BRB.

  • The Globe did a round-up this morning:
“I like this city, the environment, the energy in the fans. I think that I’ll play here for the remainder of my career,” Ramirez said in an exclusive interview with ESPNdeportes.com.
“I just feel comfortable. Regardless of how hectic Friday was — traveling from Boston with only a few hours of sleep, going to a press conference and later play a game — I started to feel the peace of mind that I was searching for,” Ramirez added. …
“The Dodgers brought me here to end my career in this city — at least that’s what I’m thinking. However, we haven’t even discussed the future. I’m simply starting to know this team,” Ramirez said.
“I love it,” Ramirez said after one game with the Dodgers. “I feel at home already. Put the word on me — I want to stay here. The weather is nice, the stadium is beautiful.” …
“I’ve already made $160 million,” he said. “I like it here. I’m looking for peace. I want to stay here. At the end of the season, if the Dodgers want me to end my career here, we’ll sit down and talk. Time will tell.” …
“I want peace,” Ramirez said. “After the game [Friday night], I went out to dinner and nobody bothers you. In Boston, you go from the stadium straight home. That’s what I’m talking about. Some people recognized me, said congratulations, that’s it. I could go to the movies with my family. I’ve got nothing against Boston, but this is what I’m looking for. The game is supposed to be fun.” …
As for his first game with the Dodgers, Ramirez disagreed that he didn’t hustle on a ball to the left-center gap by Chris Burke that went for a triple.
“I can’t take that. What do you think I am, [Juan] Pierre?” he said. “I’m not that fast. I’m 5.3 to first base, remember?”
    There’s plenty more …

  • Why is Drew sitting?
    Tito giving him a blow?

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 2:36 pm
  • Nady homers, OC 5, NYY 1, bot 5
    Det 1, Ray 0, top 4.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 2:39 pm
  • Daisuke strikes out the side, 71 pitches after 4. 7 strikeouts and only 1 walk!

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:46 pm
  • You gotta give Manny that – in LA, a baseball player isn’t anywhere near famous.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 2:51 pm
  • What a waste of Oxygen.
I thought it was Pudge that homered?

    Brad August 3, 2008, 2:52 pm
  • You gotta give Manny some credit. He knows exactly what lies to tell, and what stories to feed the morons when it comes to getting a new contract.
It’s okay, though. Soon they’ll see through his BS for what he really is – a manipulative, lying, spoiled rotten, embarassment to himself.
I agree, sometimes life isn’t fair. Some guys bust their ass, and some guys born with a huge amount of talent but have the mentality and character of someone who should be a street vendor in queens.

    Brad August 3, 2008, 2:55 pm
  • Can Lugo stay injured for the rest of his contract?

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 2:55 pm
  • He talks about the city, but not the team. He expecting to sign with the Angels at the end of the season?
Lowrie triples, average now up to .299. Casilla out.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:57 pm
  • Detroit leading Tampa now too.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 2:59 pm
  • No way they are going to put Lugo back in there now.
I’ve never wished for anyone to wake up one morning, and just not have the ability to play baseball any longer. Then spend the rest of their lives wishing that they could do something to contribute to society. Until this week.

    Brad August 3, 2008, 3:00 pm
  • Wait Brad, are you saying you don’t like Manny? ;-)

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:02 pm
  • Maybe it was. I heard “first homre as a Yankee” and assumed it was Nady.
And Pudge played for us in the 70s. This guy’s an imposter.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 3:02 pm
  • You have to think that with the saving of Bay over Manny next year, the Sox might be willing to trade Lugo to the Mexican League for a gross of avocados and a couple of agave plants.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 3:05 pm
  • The only thing that sucks about this so far is that Dice has thrown 71 pitches through 4 innings.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 3:06 pm
  • well if they can tack on another 5 or 6 runs, it’ll be safe for the bullpen.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 3:09 pm
  • SHIT, 2-run homer.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:10 pm
  • Meanwhile the yanks have scored 4 and that’s a one run game.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 3:11 pm
  • Daisuke at 92 pitches after 5, 8 strikeouts and 2 walks. Above-average outing for him, hopefully he’ll have a good 7th.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:16 pm
  • YEAH David Ortiz steals 2nd base!

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:23 pm
  • does that give anyone else a heart attack?

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 3:24 pm
  • Yankees tie it in the 7th, and Lowell strikes out.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:27 pm
  • What gave me a heart attack was the awkward slide into 2nd, RBF. Ortiz’ body was made for taking HR strolls around the bases and getting a 2nd helping of prime rib from the buffet. It was NOT made to steal bases.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:29 pm
  • Nady homers, Yanks up 8-5. Damnit.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:32 pm
  • Ray still losing, though

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 3:33 pm
  • Ath – Exactly. For once I’m watching instead of listening and that was alarming.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 3:34 pm
  • We need a few insurance runs or some more rain.

    rootbeerfloat August 3, 2008, 3:40 pm
  • Aaaaaaaaan a rain delay. Damnit.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:45 pm
  • Shit, Tampa rallying too.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 3:46 pm
  • Tex slams OC back in front, 9-8.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 3:55 pm
  • YES, Detroit scores another run and the Angels tie it.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 4:06 pm
  • Tied by JC steal of 3rd + bad throw. 9-9. Abreu up w/ 1st open.

    J (yf) August 3, 2008, 4:06 pm
  • A-Rod hits into an RBI no-out double play!! I’ll take it 10-9!!!

    J (yf) August 3, 2008, 4:10 pm
  • NADY again!!

    J (yf) August 3, 2008, 4:18 pm
  • GODDAMNIT Tampa takes the lead in the 8th.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 4:21 pm
  • JC slaps an rbi single that wipes the smirk off Howie Kendrick’s face. 14-9

    J (yf) August 3, 2008, 4:21 pm
  • Not sure if I’m happy that Krazy Kyle gives Tampa the lead over Detroit…
    Actually I am.

    J (yf) August 3, 2008, 4:26 pm
  • Detroit ties it in the 9th.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 4:37 pm
  • Huston Street coming in for the 8th.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 4:41 pm
  • Miggy homers for Det in top 10; 5-4, bot 10, Seay on for the save

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:02 pm
  • Lowrie has 18 RBIs in 32 games as of right now.
Lugo had 22 RBIs in 82 games.
    Just saying.

    Kazz August 3, 2008, 5:04 pm
  • i don’t have the tampa game ….any status?

    dc August 3, 2008, 5:11 pm
  • 5-4, 1 out; Ray has winning run on 2nd, Rodney on for Det

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:15 pm
  • We win!

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:16 pm
  • Upton walks, bases loaded, 1 out

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:17 pm
  • Crawford batting

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:18 pm
  • Crawford singles, tie game; only out in the inning on a sac bunt

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:20 pm
  • Manny is 2-for-2 w/ a double & 2 RBI. So it’s good to know he was giving it his all on the other coast.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:22 pm
  • Longo K’s, 2 out, 5-5; Pena up.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:23 pm
  • Farnsy gives up 3 in the 8th for Det; looks like Cash knew he’d used him up when he traded him away.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:25 pm
  • Pena walks, game.
    Thanks Farnsy.

    I'mBillMcNeal August 3, 2008, 5:27 pm
  • You’ve gotta be shitting me: Fernando Rodney walks in the winning run for the Rays.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 5:28 pm
  • Farnsworth??? yeah he sucks but Fernando Rodney is a steaming pile IMHO and Detroit wanted to lose, by leaving that dirtbag in there

Brian Houk SF August 3, 2008, 5:29 pm
  • he got one out on his own the other was a sac bunt. That was one NASTY way to play yourself out of a win

Brian Houk SF August 3, 2008, 5:31 pm
  • Shameful, really

Brian Houk SF August 3, 2008, 5:33 pm
  • Manny? Manny who? Don’t know no Manny cept Delcarmine

Brian Houk SF August 3, 2008, 5:35 pm
  • Yep Bill, Cash traded him when his perceived value was higher than it should be. Just like Theo last year with Kason Gabbard, even if what we got in return wasn’t worth shit.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 6:11 pm
  • Manny singled, doubled and homered so far in the Dodgers game.

    Atheose August 3, 2008, 6:42 pm
  • Yeah, and Manny ended up going 4 for 5 for the first time this year, the point is he wasn’t putting out that kind of effort for the Sox.
    Get over Manny
