He was great in Mask, and he’s had some decent outings against the Bombers over the years, but….the Freddy Garcia speculation has moved from the Sox to the Yanks. Will Cashman make a move? TBD.
Also, on this day following strong outings from Pettitte and Clemens in Houston, the Post’s Joel Sherman criticizes the Yankee starters’ poor start, arguing that the staff was stronger last year. Maybe, but his arguments are dubious, and none more so than his concern that Vaz has no playoff experience. We think it’s been conclusively shown at this point that past playoff experience is not an indicator of performance when the postseason rolls around. Anyone who watched Game 6 of last year’s World Series can vouch for the numbers.
Meanwhile, the Yanks depart today on their longest trip of the season: 12 road games against Anaheim, Texas, Tampa, and Baltimore. That’s a lot of luggage. (The Sox 12-game swing comes in July). Best luck to the first place Bombers. If they return in that position, they’ll have had a fine trip.
I concur. This postee has previously said that he would be happy if the Yanks can hover around first place through May. June proves to be an interesting month as interleague play starts. How do you think the Dodgers feel about this year’s interleague schedule – they have to play the Sox, Orioles, and Yanks in back-to-back-to-back series. Ouch.
I think they’d be a lot happier if they split the gate.
