The Chase: Sox-Rangers Gamer IX

The Rays lost. The Twins are on the verge. Things are starting to come into focus.

For once the division may offer some real, tangible spoils, and though we always preach “just make the playoffs” the Sox do have a 1-8 record against the Angels. Traveling on the road, cross-country, to face a well-rested Halos squad isn’t, perhaps, the best first round scenario. We understand the “be careful what you wish for” factor, but all things on paper being equal, the White Sox (and, of course, the Rays) are the target. Tonight the Sox send Tim Wakefield to the hill in Arlington, looking to clinch this series with the Rangers.

  • Sox already down 2-1 in the 2nd. Wakefield does not look like he’ll be sticking around very long tonight. I do not have a good feeling about the Sox winning this game.

  • 3-1 after Wake loads the bases and walks in a run. All 3 runs so far have scored with 2 outs.

  • Wake walks in another to make it 4-1.

  • Sure would be nice to take advantage after the Rays’ stunning loss. Let’s buck up – it’s Ranger pitching.

Too bad, since the Rays already lost.

  • 7-1 and Wake is out. Good thing rosters have expanded because the Sox will need a lot of pitchers this game.

    Nice effort.

  • Nevermind: Sox give most of it back, now down 9-4.

  • Last night I wondered why Masterson was in in a blowout. Wouldn’t he have been the guy to come in this inning down 7-4 to try to hold the line for 2 or 3?
Why did he pitch last night?

  • I agree with you completely, SF. We’ll see if those 2 runs end up mattering — I’m not convinced the Sox will score again anyway.

I was wondering the same thing last night, for the very possibility of what we’re seeing now.
    ouch, this is painful.

  • Kinda due for one of these anyway…especially a Wakefield start in Texas. Blech.
