Time for the Grown-Ups: Sox-Ms Gamer II

If you didn’t get a chance to watch the Futures at Fenway double-header today, well, you should have. Both were great games, and the PawSox had a come-from-behind win with a Carlos Pena home run in the eighth inning. Let’s hope we can see a few more of those next month.

Time for the major-league team to follow suit. David Wells has been solid in three consecutive starts, Manny Ramirez is back in the lineup — although even Terry Francona says he doesn’t know how well Manny can play on his right knee — and Mark Loretta returns to the lineup. Who knows, Coco Crisp might even prove me right and have a good game (yes, that was a shameless plug).

The Sox don’t seem to play well in Safeco Field, though, and they remain without Wily Mo Pena (tendinitis) and Kevin Youkilis (flu). But, hey, things could be worse — Alex Rodriguez could be playing third base.

  • We need to cheer for CWS, not Minn.
CWS is more vulnerable. You don’t want to face that Minn pitching in the postseason.

  • It’s exhibition and Portis isn’t playing, but wow do the Redskins suck-diddly-uck.

  • Jenks struggled through the ninth. Gave up a run and Cuddyer just missed a 3-run homer to end the inning. Minn 7, CWS 5.

  • With Youkilis out, and Manny’s knee allegedly balky, I might have thought that Tito would give Ortiz a night to show what he can do at 1st base (think: throwing out that Cards pitcher across the diamond in the 2004 WS) and let Manny DH.

  • Meche is mowing the Sox down… 4 out of 5 outs so far have been Ks.

    Hudson August 26, 2006, 10:28 pm
  • Make that 5 out of 6 outs in the first two innings.

  • ChiSox tied it up, 7-7, 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth.

    Hudson August 26, 2006, 10:35 pm
  • Jermaine Dye homers w/1 out in the 9th to tie it, 7-7.
Best of all Hawk just quoted Ned Martin, “Mercy.”
That’s home run no. 38 and Rbis 100 and 101 for Dye. He’s batting .326.
Any conversation about the AL MVP MUST include Jermaine Dye. Certainly before Jeter and maybe even before Papi.
    Sox-Twins go to the 10th, 7-7.

  • Wow, pitchers’ duel shaping up as Wells is being very efficient (22 pitches through two innings, 2 Ks, no baserunners allowed).
Trying to not hope that the Sox pick up a game on the Empire tonight.

    Hudson August 26, 2006, 11:11 pm
  • Gah, I posted that about Wells’ ERA right before the M’s scored a run. Oh well.

    Hudson August 26, 2006, 11:16 pm
  • Covelli has seen 14 pitches in his 3 plate appearances. Getting better. …
And Loretta with an RBI single. 2-1.

  • funny how seattle, who is not a good team, has a bullpen full of guys with low era’s. i think that says something about hargrove.

    sf rod August 27, 2006, 12:25 am
  • IBB manny to face the assistant captain….make em pay mike.

    sf rod August 27, 2006, 12:29 am
  • sigh.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:36 am
  • lowell comes through with a soft line drive, but manny gets gunned down by 20 feet going first to third. ball comes loose and for some reason the ump calls him out. WTF. that was ugly.

    sf rod August 27, 2006, 12:37 am
  • Our two pitchers combined tonight are probably plder than the four who have thrown for Seattle.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:37 am
  • At least the run counted. Small victory. And it saved Hinske the humilation of making an out with two on.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:38 am
  • Shit.

    Laura August 27, 2006, 12:40 am

    Laura August 27, 2006, 12:42 am
  • oh, boy.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:43 am

  • MDC up again.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:44 am
  • The sad thing is that this isn’t even affecting me anymore…I’m happy when they win, but it doesn’t surprise me in the least that we’ve blown it.

    Laura August 27, 2006, 12:45 am
  • And Timlin still is in there because there really is no one in the pen you trust with runners on.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:48 am
  • Lost the lead with the bottom of the order up in the ninth.
And now if they tie or go ahead, you have to face Ichiro. At least Paps seems to have straightened out.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:50 am
  • Come on Hinske, you fucking cheesehead.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:51 am
  • That’s 6 blown saves for Timlin.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:52 am
  • Gloom and doom. Gloom and doom. Gloom and doom.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:53 am
  • Hey, Lopez, this would be a good time for your first Red Sox home run.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:53 am
  • In 22 ABs with the Red Sox, Hinske has fanned 12 times. Damn Cheesehead.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:55 am
  • Ugh. And it’s over. This should be a tough loss, but it’s not. It’s a pettern I’ve grown used to, and I’m just immune to it at this point. I hate it though.

    Laura August 27, 2006, 12:58 am
  • And Alex Cora strikes out to end it.
That was the 10th strikeout for Red Sox batters tonight, three each for Hinske and Lopez.
And another wasted quality start by Wells.
    So many wasted opportunities.
    Damn.

    I'm Bill McNeal August 27, 2006, 12:58 am
  • I have a tiny dick.

    Joe August 27, 2006, 1:12 am
  • Teh ringz…. My precioussss.

    Hudson August 27, 2006, 5:42 am
  • Ya know Joe, good job, rub it in, but, …no teams other than the yanks have more than 9 rings(championships)- Cardinals have 9, Sox are 3rd with 6. That means you’re saying nya,nya to 29 other organizations. Sounds like the bully on the playground with no friends who always gets his comeupence, and, last time i checked 5 teams have rings since 2001 and ny aint one of’em. So, keep up the taunting Joe, but remember, times they are a changin’, and big stein, like Castro, wont live forever, and, baseball AND Cuba will once again be a democracy. Sorry, didnt mean to mix politics into this, must be the hangover, anyway, i dont think either of our beloved teams are making it to the World Series this year….

    COUNT TEH RINGZ BITCHES!!111
Oh, and to the poseur posting petty prurience, I actually have an ENORMOUS cock. Just ask your mom.

    Joe August 27, 2006, 10:11 am
  • My son Joe is a pathological liar. He does have a tiny dick, no matter what he says. Plus he’s a virgin. Amazing, considering he just turned 35. What a pathetic kid.
