Three years, plus two option years. Financial terms not yet disclosed, though Gordon Edes indicates it doesn’t exceed the deal Joe Torre received from Los Angeles (3/$13M).
Much deserved. Congrats, Tito.

Great news.
I’m happy for the guy, he earned it. WTG Tito, a salute to the last 2 World Series and here’s to many more.
Tito = The Straw that Stirs the Drink
re..re..re…repeat
good for him…he’s clearly the best manager for the sox in a very long time…and he’s likable…
The Globe reports it’s 3 years, $12 million, so one of the richest managerial contracts in the game. Well deserved. After 2011, the Sox can accept both option years, worth $4.25 and $4.5 million.
So, the contract could wind up being five years, $20.75 million.
Good to see Francona finally getting his due. If the Sox have a good season this year, I think he’ll probably win MOY out of deference to his achievements the past four years.
Maybe the best manager in the game right now. I’m pleased. It is well-deserved.
Also, ESPN reporting that the Red Sox have sined 2005 Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon to a minor-league deal. I like this, too.
I’m thrilled for Francona. Who would have thought he’d be the one to deliver two series?
Great to see this – I figured they were just keeping negotiations under the radar, and it looks like I was correct. Best Sox manager of my lifetime by far (although I’m only 22), and a magician in the postseason. I’m happy to see him with the Sox for another four to six years.
