Wedding Season II: Yanks-O’s Gamer III

Why don’t we just forget yesterday ever happened, ‘kay? The sight of Our Hero having his shoulder jammed on a headfirst dive into third—bad memories. And he lost his hit streak, as all our beloved Bombers could must was one measley hit against the lowly O’s. We expect a better performance today, and while we may have to sneak out to the car for updates, you can bet we’ll be keeping track. But you—you can comment on all the action right here. Enjoy! Go Yanks!!

  • Gibbons grounds out to third to end the threat.
O’s are doing a horrible job of advancing runners and pushing them home.
On the flip to that, Wright has been decent with runners on base and not getting to frazzled and making his pitches.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 2:31 pm
  • Melky homers….4-0

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:04 pm
  • Giambi fouls a 1-1 breaking pitch off his ankle, but he’s okay. The 1-2 is way outside. The 2-2 misses away to bring the count full. The payoff is lifted into the right field stands for a solo home run. NY 5, Baltimore 1.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:04 pm
  • There is a Yanks fan…

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:04 pm
  • Thanks for carrying the thread, Rob.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:05 pm
  • Bernie works the count to 2-2. He grounds it to Tejada who throws across to end the inning.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:06 pm
  • No problem….I figured someone was going to show up eventually. Not to many in the sox thread either.
    Who is getting married today?

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:06 pm
  • Wright comes out to work the bottom of the fifth and faces Mora.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:08 pm
  • Mora grounds out 6-3.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:09 pm
  • Rob, I don’t know who is getting married. Must be a mutual friend/family thing for the NYC crew.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:10 pm
  • Ahhh…not sure if it was one of them.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:11 pm
  • Tejada pops out to Abreu, then a single to right from Gibbons. Conine up.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:12 pm
  • Conine draws a walk. Two outs, first and second to Corey Patterson.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:13 pm
  • Wright goes up the ladder and puts CP in an 0-2 hole.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:14 pm
  • What is Wright’s normal pitch count?
He has actually done a good job today of not giving in to hitters after giving up hits.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:14 pm
  • Fastball on the inside corner rings up Patterson and ends the threat.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:14 pm
  • Usually Wright goes about 90-100 pitches a game and averages around five innings. That’s one of the knocks on him, that he works a lot of long counts. He’ll give up a walk before making a mistake and giving up a homer. I think he has only allowed four HRs this year.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:18 pm
  • Melky is rung up looking, and Fasano grounds out to short.
Nick Green up. He fouls off the first pitch, check swing strike two (I don’t think he went) and strikes out swinging on a pitch low and out of the zone. Not a good AB for Nick. Inning over. Rather quickly.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:21 pm
  • Millar pops out to Jeter on the first pitch for one away in the bottom of six. Wright still on the mound. Markakis swings and misses at the first two pitches. The 0-2 is a soft grounder back to the mound on a slider way low that Markakis chased and took a check swing at. Two away.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:24 pm
  • Widger pops out on the first pitch, straight up in the air where Fasano battles the sun to retire the side. VERY fast inning for Wright there. Love that.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:25 pm
  • O’s went down rather quickly.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:25 pm
  • This is the fifth game this year that Wright has pitched six full. He is 1-1 with two no-decisions in the previous four. If he comes out to pitch the seventh, we are in “Uncharted Territory.”
Damon leads off the seventh for NY.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:27 pm
  • Damon grounds out on the 0-1 to Tejada. Jeets up.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:27 pm
  • Yes, Rob, 5 pitch inning.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:27 pm
  • Jeter takes ball one, then ball two. The 2-0 low but swung on and grounded to third where Blalock makes the play and throws across for the second out. Abreu up.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:29 pm
  • He has been effective to this point and there is a decent lead. Maybe run him back out with a short leash.
The Sox are in the same boat right now with Jason Johnson who has looked great for his standards this afternoon.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:29 pm
  • Abreu behind 0-2; takes low and away for ball one. The 1-2 is a breaking pitch that hits him on the back leg. ARod up with two away and Abreu on first.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:30 pm
  • ARod takes ball one. They check Abreu, who is always a threat to steal, back to the bag. Ball two to ARod, and Bobby swipes second.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:31 pm
  • Strike one to ARod. The 2-1 is grounded to short. Tejada throws to first to end the inning. Headed to the stretch.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:33 pm
  • Yeah, Rob, I think they need to send him back out, considering his effectiveness the last few frames.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:33 pm
  • Would be a good rest for some of the pen people.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:34 pm
  • Proctor on for NY. Guess that’s it for Proctor. Roberts almost jacks the first pitch out to right. Abreu catches it at the track.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:37 pm
  • Another pop out to right. Now Proctor is up 0-2 with two outs.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:40 pm
  • edit: Guess that’s it for Wright.
I would have liked to see another inning from Jaret, but good outing anyway.
Proctor gets a slow roller to second where Green fields and throws to end the inning in order. On to the eighth.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:41 pm
  • RHP Julio Manon on for Baltimore. 10.2 innings. Been up and down to Ottawa according to the Orioles announcers.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:44 pm
  • Giambi with a hard single to the corner. AP in to pinch run. Bernie up.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:44 pm
  • Manon with 13K’s in 10.2 IP.
Pretty decent ratio there…however I wonder who he was pitching to before.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 3:44 pm
  • Bernie pops out to left for out number one.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:46 pm
  • Manon has faced NY, SEA, WAS, BOS, KAN, DET, TEX, TOR this year. All short relief with no decisions, and one blown save. Went two innings against Boston in early May.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:48 pm
  • Phillips had second on the steal but came off the bag and is tagged out. AP with the mental blunder. Ouch.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:50 pm
  • Bernie walks. Fasano up.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:52 pm
  • Fasano rung up swinging to end the top of the eighth.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:53 pm
  • Error at first on an easy play, then a weak grounder up the middle to make it first and second with no outs.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 3:57 pm
  • Proctor falls behind 2-0, then works back to 2-2 against Patterson. Corey lifts a fly to right. Abreu makes the catch, and the runner doesn’t even think about tagging. That’s something NY has not had in right this year.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:01 pm
  • True AG…with Bernie out there it has been a green light to tag and go.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 4:01 pm
  • Bernie is center. Millar lifts one to the track. Both runners tag and advance. There’s the difference, illustrated in such a timely way.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:02 pm
  • Yes, and tag from first to second on a fly to center. Ouch, Berns.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:02 pm
  • That’s it for Proctor.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:03 pm
  • Rivera on for NY looking for a four-out finish.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:04 pm
  • bernie has played a lot in right this season correct? That is what I was meaning a few posts earlier.

    Rob August 6, 2006, 4:05 pm
  • Rivera feeds a ball to Markakis. On the 1-0, he induces a ground ball to first that Phillips plays unassisted to end the inning. Headed to the top of nine.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:06 pm
  • Yes, Bernie played right most of the time since Sheff got injured, with cameos by Long, Crosby, Guiel, and others.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:08 pm
  • Green takes ball one to lead off the top of the ninth. Nick fouls one off to make it 1-1. The next pitch is fouled back as well. The 1-2: strike three swinging.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:09 pm
  • Damon to the plate. Ball one high. Damon beats out a roller to short. Good play by Tejada but the ball wasn’t hit hard enough to have a play at first.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:10 pm
  • Why is Jeter bunting up four runs in the ninth? Gah.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:11 pm
  • After fouling off the bunt, Jeter takes ball one. The 1-1 is fouled right. The next pitch is grounded hard at Mora who bobbles. Was thinking of going for two but mishandled the ball and was lated to first. E6, first and second with one out to Abreu.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:14 pm
  • Abreu takes ball one. Fouls the next pitch in the dirt. The 1-1 is base hit past Tejada to score Damon. Jeter to third on the single.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:16 pm
  • Arod fouls off the first pitch after Abreu comes in for Baltimore, then takes a strike to fall behind 0-2. High for ball one. The 1-2 is fouled up first. The next pitch is a great breaking ball that may have been high but rings up ARod looking, who is 0-5 today.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:22 pm
  • AP takes inside for ball one. Fouls off the next pitch for 1-1. AP takes high for 2-1. The next pitch is fouled back. Takes a ball, and then another to work it full.
The payoff: Andy lines it to Conine in left to end the inning. Heading to the bottom of the ninth.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:26 pm
  • Rivera feeds a ball high to Tatis, hitting for Widger to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Tatis pops out to right for the first out.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:29 pm
  • Rivera misses low, then a ground out from Roberts to Green for the second out.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:30 pm
  • One ball to Mora, then a foul to make it 1-1. Mora pops the next pitch back to make it 1-2. Defensive swing pop foul on the next pitch. The 1-2: lined foul. The next pitch is grounded foul up third. The seventh pitch is off the end of the bat, lifted to right. Abreu makes the catch to end the game. New York 6, Baltimore 1.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:33 pm
  • Great performance by Wright today.

    attackgerbil August 6, 2006, 4:35 pm
  • Thanks for hold up the thread, Rob & AG. Lonely work, but I appreciate it after missing today’s game.
