We’re Off!

YF and I are moments away from heading up to Beantown for tonight’s and tomorrow’s festivities.  We’ll check in from the Fens, with sporadic photoblogging thanks to our spanky new technology.  Enjoy the series, everyone, we’ll be back in full force on Sunday.

  • Also, at one time the place was operated by the Prefontaine grandparents. Steve Prefontaine was America’s premier distance runner in the early seventies and from the University of Oregon, but ran a very disappointing fourth place finish in the 72 Olympics coached by none other than Bill Bowerman, founder of Nike shoes.
Actually, I have no idea how true that is, since it was a tidbit of knowledge passed onto me from a drunk runner friend while watching the movie, but sounds like it could definitely be true.

  • The place also appears in the movie “fire on the track”, which is a movie about the runner. And, a good one too.

  • Vegas odds for tonight:
Yanks favored, moneyline at 106. In other words, we have no freaking clue
Which is odd, given the pitching matchup (Dice K’s troubles of late)
StubHub ticket cost range: $265-$899 Ha!
    /better placement

  • hey, brad…. that prefontaine story could be true. he ran at the U of O, and the majority of the footage from animal house was shot in the same little college town that is home to the school. (i lived in the town for a couple of years, right next to the campus and spotted a bunch of the locations seen in the movie. supposedly the cafeteria still has remnants of the food fight up in the corners of the ceiling. if true, that’s kind of nasty.)
and sadly, i won’t be at any of the games this weekend, lockland. the sox’s winning percentage when i’ve attended games this year was a lofty .250 (.000 against the yanks).
