  • Speaking of colors, it’s always bugged me that the White Sox wear black sox.

  • 7 games back from a .500 road record. with 25 home games and 22 road games remaining, hopefully this series will be the start of some consistency. 4 games with another playoff contender will be a critical tone setter for the home stretch. our rotation sets up well and seems like the offense is starting to gel.

  • Indeed sf rod; Ellsbury might be breaking out of his slump and Lowrie is on a tear, which eliminates 2 of the 3 black holes in the lineup. We can deal with Varitek striking out 4 times a night as long as the others are producing.

CHICAGO — Kevin Youkilis is indeed back in the lineup today after being hit by a pitch from Luke Hochevar on Wednesday in Kansas City. He said he didn’t even ice the wrist on the day off, but there’s just some minimal swelling left.

  • Interesting to see JD continue to lead off. That’s pretty nice 1-7.
Nice to face OC and have Lowrie starting. It removes the pain of having to think about all disastrous Sox SS past.

  • no jacoby! good idea tito, he’s been so hot lately you should give him a day off,

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 7:51 pm
  • I assume it’s a lefty-lefty thing, sf rod. That might be over-thinking things a little — Jacoby did just hit his first HR off a lefty — but it’s not totally crazy.

  • Get Lowell out of the five spot!!!!
Lester has given up more than three earned runs just twice in his last 17 starts. Since June 1, he’s 7-0 with a 2.56 ERA in 10 starts. That ERA is third-best among AL pitchers in that span, behind King Felix and Mike Mussina. He and John Danks (5-0) are the only pitchers with a minimum of 50 innings to go undefeated the last two-plus months.
    Let’s keep it going, Jon!

  • Seriously, why put Coco back in tonight? Ellsbury’s breaking out of his slump before our eyes!

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:00 pm
  • Lowell’s OPS is at .768, Bay’s is .912. It’s a no-brainer to have him in the 5-spot, unless Tito is leaving him there out of respect.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:03 pm
  • ahhh, now i see. coco is .375/.394/.594 with an ops of .988 vs. buehrle. makes sense.

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 8:06 pm
  • Ahhhh makes sense… in Tito we trust. Lowell has better numbers than Bay against lefties this year too, so maybe that’s why he’s in the #5 spot.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:07 pm
  • no laser show.

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 8:13 pm
  • BOOOOO Quentin swung damnit!
Of course they don’t show the replay cause they know it was obvious.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:22 pm
  • Lester looking good, despite the walk.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:26 pm
  • Buehrle looking maybe good-er. A 9 pitch inning for him.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 8:33 pm
  • odd mix, lester is working inside on everyone so far while buehrle is staying away on everyone.

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 8:38 pm
  • jacoby who? tito is a smart man.

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 8:43 pm
  • Lowrie makes a nice jump!

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:48 pm
  • Crap, back-to-back singles.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:50 pm
  • Sac-fly, [black] Sox up 1-0.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 8:51 pm
  • a 7 pitch walk for tek is basically a double in my mind.

    sf rod August 8, 2008, 9:12 pm
  • God did not bless Coco during that AB.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 9:13 pm
  • No sir he did not. Sad face.
So I confronted my roommate’s girlfriend about snooping in my room and she kept denying it, so I laughed in her face and told her I had video of her. She STILL denied it, so I showed her the video and she quietly stormed out of the apartment.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 9:16 pm
  • Bay had it all the way but slowed when he saw Lowrie. Sucks when both players are somewhat new and don’t feel comfortable calling the other one off.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 9:22 pm
  • Sac bunt and a double and suddenly it’s 3-0 bad guys. Bah.
Off to the bar, g’night fellas.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 9:24 pm
  • Not looking too promising for the good guys tonight.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 9:25 pm
  • Have a good bar trip, Ath. Curious to hear more about your next encounter with your roommate’s girlfriend. Can’t believe she decided to double down on the denial and you were able to get all “National Enquirer traps John Edwards” on her. How embarrassing.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 9:26 pm
  • Well the night at the bar didn’t last long thanks to a fight (we weren’t involved but two fraternities got into a scuffle so we hauled ass out of there). Got back just in time to say LASER SHOW! 4-3 now.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:11 pm
  • HOLY CRAP! Pedroia brings the laser gun and brings the (Red) Sox to within a run! Now 4-3. That run last inning looms awfully large now.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:12 pm
  • Yeah Stuck, if she had come clean and apologized we could put this behind us. Instead she decided to be immature and continue to lie, and she STILL has not apologized! Grow up, right?

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:15 pm
  • By the way, I had forgotten how hommerish these announcers are. They might as well be fans with the way they’re complaining about every pitch and cheering for every Chicago play. They damn near stained their underpants when Lowrie hit into a DP last inning.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:17 pm
  • Holy shit the announcers and Perzinksi are acting like they just won Game 7 of the World Series on that pop-up.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:20 pm
  • Lowell pops out, which means it’s up to the pen to keep it within one and then for Bay, Lowrie, and Tek to go to work. And Tek’s had a decent night, to be fair.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:21 pm
  • IPK already getting knocked around in the 1st inning, 2-0 Angels.
And shit, ‘lil Manny gives up a solo homerun to Quentin.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:23 pm
  • Wow, MDC can’t get it done. Real disappointing. Hard to believe Quentin is the league leader in HRs. Kinda like how it’s hard to believe Griffey is on the White Sox. Weird. Hard team to take seriously, but it looks like they’ll probably get this one.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:29 pm
  • Bay hits one about a yard short of a homer.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:32 pm
  • Earlier today Krueg predicted that IPK would suck but that the Yankees would win with the help of two homeruns and 5 RBI by ARod. ARod just homered, and IPK is sucking early, so his prediction looks correct so far.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:33 pm
  • Lowrie HBP, tying run at the plate. Unfortunately it’s Tek.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:34 pm
  • Sean Casey pinch-hitting for Coco.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:35 pm
  • Casey grounds out, and the announcers lose their shit.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:38 pm
  • What’s Casey’s line as a PH? It can’t be any good.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:40 pm
  • On the bright side, the Angels go right back to work against Kennedy and Seattle’s leading Tampa (though I don’t expect *that* to last).

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • He’s now 2 for 12 this season as a pinch-hitter.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:41 pm
  • I think I’d have rather Francona let Coco bat.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 10:43 pm
  • Casey was 2 for 3 lifetime against Jenks.
Sure enough Tampa takes the lead against the Mariners.

    Atheose August 8, 2008, 10:49 pm
  • And now the Yankees take the lead over the Angels. Looks like one of those nights.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 11:04 pm
  • Oh sweet, sweet Ian Kennedy. I’m so much more at peace now. OK, back to work.

    stuck working August 8, 2008, 11:22 pm
  • IPK pulled; 2+ IP, 10 baserunners, 5 runs. He’s lucky Rasner came in and got 3 outs.
