It was pretty much the talk of the All-Star break: the Yanks, after a decade, were now practically out of the playoff picture, far out of the Wild Card hunt and behind a rolling BoSox club. Just about every pundit around declared the Bombers dead in the water. Well. Not so fast. In 24 hours, the Sox have dropped two, including a trouncing last night at the hands of the A’s, and the Yanks, with a clutch victory of their own, have cut the Sox lead to a fairly negligible 1.5 games. The Unit pitched well. Leche came through in the clutch. Bubba made a brilliant play in the 9th. And Mo, as ever, pulled things out. So then. The Yanks go again today against Chicago, and put Mike Mussina (10-3, 3.24) snubbed by Ozzie Guillen for the All-Star team, against Mark Buehrle, who made it with less impressive numbers (9-6, 4.02). Let’s hope Moose teaches those baddies a lesson this afternoon. Comment on the action here.
