What a Difference a Day Makes: Chisox-Yanks Gamer II

It was pretty much the talk of the All-Star break: the Yanks, after a decade, were now practically out of the playoff picture, far out of the Wild Card hunt and behind a rolling BoSox club. Just about every pundit around declared the Bombers dead in the water. Well. Not so fast. In 24 hours, the Sox have dropped two, including a trouncing last night at the hands of the A’s, and the Yanks, with a clutch victory of their own, have cut the Sox lead to a fairly negligible 1.5 games. The Unit pitched well. Leche came through in the clutch. Bubba made a brilliant play in the 9th. And Mo, as ever, pulled things out. So then. The Yanks go again today against Chicago, and put Mike Mussina (10-3, 3.24) snubbed by Ozzie Guillen for the All-Star team, against Mark Buehrle, who made it with less impressive numbers (9-6, 4.02). Let’s hope Moose teaches those baddies a lesson this afternoon. Comment on the action here.

  • Moose throws 18 pitches but emerges unscathed, time for the home team to slap Buehle around.

  • Let me just chime in on how ticked I am that FOX won’t let me WATCH MY FAVORITE BASEBALL TEAM ON A SATURDAY! Feck FOX.
I’d pay for it, but I can’t. It makes no sense whatsoever.
In related developments, the contract between MLB and Fox was extended. Part of the restructuring of the contract states that FOX can now air 26 Saturday games instead of 18. I don’t know what that means, since I only get ONE game on Saturdays on the west coast. Maybe now I get one and a half?
Did I already say feck FOX?

  • Yanks are up 8-0 now in the top of 5 after Jeter’s second double of the game scores Cairo and Cabrera, and Giambi singles Jeter home. Explosive bats today.

  • Can’t watch baseball on Saturdays. The terrorists have won.

  • Anderson doubled to lead off the top of the fifth, and Iguchi scores him on a single. CWS 1, NYY 8.

  • Thome homers to bring two runs across. Dye pops out to end the top of the 5th, NYY 8 CWS 3.

  • Being out here on the Left Coast sucks on Saturdays w/no way to watch the Yanks beyond gamecast.

  • Your’re right AG, it’s downright un-American. I don’t want to watch the frickin Dodgers and Cards.

  • I’ve moved to the left coast as well AG. It is killing me! When I first moved out here last summer I got the Yanks/Sox saturday morning game on Fox and thought I’d get at least a few more. I can’t remember when I’ve gotten the Yanks on Fox since.
Yanks are looking good so far.

  • Brady at the Yankee game, secret Yankee fan? New Englanders all over just vomited in their mouths! HA HA.

  • Is it me, or does Bobby Jenks look like the son of George “The Animal” Steele?

  • What fantastic game. A close nail biter on Friday night followed by a Saturday afternoon thrashing. Everyone got their licks in including Bubba w/ his homer. Funny how the entire media was signing the Yanks’ death warrant earlier this week while making their second half predictions. I’m pretty sure that all the water coolers in ESPN’s HQ in Bristol are filled w/ Red Sox Cool Aid. Don’t drink it! Now let’s hope Danny Haren straight deals tonight in Fenway.

  • Just saw the final. Beautiful. Keep the motor running.

  • This was just a great game. Moose was terrific, mixing things up, throwing strikes, unperturbable. Add in a couple of clutch hits for Derek, one for Alex, yet another from Bernie (who’s been terrific of late, and never mind the stat geeks), the Bubba dinger, and you’ve got yourself a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
