if you told me 3 weeks ago that the boston red sox would be leading the AL in runs scored by june 1st, i’d have called you a liar. but you’d be right.

WHY THE HELL DO UMPIRES SUCK SO MUCH ASS???? THIS MORON UMP RUINS THE KID’S PERFECT GAME IN DETROIT ON AN OBVIOUS BLOWN CALL???? REALLY DICKHEAD??? WHY ARE THESE MORONS NOT FINED/SUSPENDED/PUNCHED IN THE BALLS???? That is a fucking travesty…

i saw it too krueg…sickening…once again the story of a huge game is the umpiring…the ump was probably in the right position, but not the best position…still had an unobstructed, no escuses view of the play though…replay’s a joke if they won’t expand it to allow review of plays like that one…wtf

I’m AMAZED at that blown call in the Tigers game. Horrible, horrible job. Selig should step in, overrule the umpire’s call and give him the perfect game.

ya know, i just saw another replay…i wonder if joyce thought galarraga bobbled the ball…his foot clearly touched before the runner, but if you watch the ball go into the glove, he appeared to snowcone it, then shuffle it fully into the glove…i don’t know, it still sickens me…

I’m more upset about this than any blown call, almost ever, when my team gets a blown call against them I can usually tell my self that these things happen, there were lots of chances they didn’t take advantage of, etc.
Not this, this is almost criminal. The ump needs to lose his job, period. Selig needs to step in and reverse his call. I’m so angry about this it’s bordering on irrational.

If he bobbled the ball then they could give an error to Galarraga and he would get a perfect game instead…
Also, I agree wholeheartedly with what Lockland said above. Fire the ump, reverse the call. Institute 2 “challenges” per game that can use replay, like football and tennis.

“I just cost that kid a perfect game,” Joyce said. “I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay.”
“It was the biggest call of my career,” said Joyce, who became a full-time major league umpire in 1989.

i know what you mean ath, but they can’t reverse the call…they can appeal to the official scorer however…i looked at the feet on the first few replays, then i focused on the ball/glove, but maybe i didn’t see it right…you’re right about an error still giving him a no-hitter of course, but that would be a call for the official scorer…it’s not too late to change it…to just let it be really sucks…

I just saw an interview with Gallarraga, talk about maturity and grace…the kid had no hard feelings, said no one is perfect and accepted the umps apology. Kudos dude.
PS Who exactly is leading the league in runs again???

Speaking of stats I would not have predicted out of Spring training – Pettitte and Hughes hold 2 of the 5 lowest ERAs among starters in the AL.
Re: Galarraga, you’re right Krueg – an absolute class act.
Re: the umpire, I’m sorry but I don’t see how anyone can be angry at him. Umpires make mistakes and this particular umpire is a veteran guy for whom managers and players alike hav elots of respect and who doesn’t – like some umps – insert himself inappropriately, pick fights or goad players and managers in arguments etc. He is a human being and – like Galaragga, he reacted to his mistake with as much class and professionalism as was possible, immediately acknowledging it when he saw the replay, seeking Galarraga out to apologize, etc.
If you want to be pissed at someone, be pissed at MLB for not taking replay more seriously so that when mistakes – which are inevitable – get made, they can be rectified.

You are right IH…I heard the interview with the Ump this morning and he was definitely crushed. He seemed genuinely sorry. I guess the other side of the coin is that he was willing to make the unpopular call if he thought it was the right one? And yes, WTF…instant replay already. Stupid Selig.
Pettitte and Hughes are lighting it up for sure. CC has been a little shaky and AJ is AJ but all in all, solid staff. It was really nice seeing our full lineup back last night…(Sloth was never really on the team as far as I’m concerned, don’t miss him at all) and with The Francisco Kid hitting the crap out of the ball there is no soft spot. Awesome.
