Yanks-Rays Gamer I

Mike Mussina looks to continue his early season dominance. Those pesky Devil Rays are in town for a three game set. There’s a lot of young talent on the team, but, still, the Yanks need to win this series. Discuss the game here.

  • Giambi’s always on base

    NickYF April 25, 2006, 7:30 pm
  • Andy Phillips, bases loaded. 2 down.

    RichYF April 25, 2006, 8:52 pm
  • big moment for Andy

    NickYF April 25, 2006, 8:54 pm
  • Just got off work, went to the neighborhood Red Sox bar (there aren’t many Yankee bars out here) and get welcomed to a 4-1 lead with the bases juiced and the Sox down in their game. Nice end to the day. Too bad Andy busted his bat and lost the chance to blow this open.

  • Wow, nice pitch by Moose.

  • Wow, what a pitch by Moose to get Gathright. The bottom completely fell out of that ball.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:04 pm
  • I WISH I could see this game. Last year, Moose pretty much couldn’t put hitters away after the first/second time through the order. He’d get two strikes and then he COULD NOT finish. I am really missing out…

  • He just got Gomes to pop out in foul territory off first. I’ll try to do play by play on the interesting stuff for you Rich, at least until I have to leave. Reading the game log, it looks like besides getting touched by Gomes in the first, the only other trouble was in the 5th and he recorded all three outs, one k, and two fielding. I saw the replay of one of the comebackers.. hard hit, he had to elevate but made a great catch on the chopper to get the ball and record the out at first.

  • Dunn relieves Kazmir, and then walks Cairo. Top of the order, no outs.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:10 pm
  • Damon hits a sharp shot to right; Branyan tries for it but misses, but still keepsit in front of him. Damon ends up with a double, Cairo at third for Jeter, no outs.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:12 pm
  • Hard single on a 1-0 pitch, to left by Jeter. Cairo scores, Damon to third.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:13 pm
  • Dunn is pulled. Don’t know who’s in for TB

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:14 pm
  • Papi just hit a solo jack for Boston to tie the game with the tribe at 4. Ruddy Lugo in for TB

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:16 pm
  • I’ve got gamecast going, but it’s barely helpful. The Phillips play was spotty at best. I had no idea what happened until you said he broke his bat…

    RichYF April 25, 2006, 9:16 pm
  • Saw the Papi HR. And promptly turned the game off. I knew right off the bat…

    RichYF April 25, 2006, 9:17 pm
  • Sheffield reaches way low, way outside to stroke a single to left. I have no idea how he got that ball, let alone pull it. Scores Damon, Jeter to second. Arod hits a dribbler to the pitcher and is thrown out, with a great scoop by the first baseman on the low throw. Jeter at third, Damon at second, one out to Jason.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:19 pm
  • Jason takes 3-0 all the way. Strike down the middle. Then pulls the 3-1 up the left field line by a diving Lee for a double, clearing the bases. 8-1 Yanks.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:20 pm
  • Godzilla hits the ball about 399 feet to dead center, high in the air. Giambi tags to third.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:22 pm
  • Jorge had a good cut, but it was easily playable in right center. Inning over.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:23 pm
  • Tek just hit to right that the Blake totally misplayed. Just awful. 1st and 2nd for the sox with one out. I love being able to watch multiple games. I’ve got the cubs, cavs, yanks, sox, and ott/tb NHL. Heaven.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:25 pm
  • Moose gives up a single to left. Torre is out to the mound to talk. In the Sox game, great throw to the plate from left that would have gotten Manny but the catcher dropped the ball.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:27 pm
  • They pulled Moose. 96 pitches, 62 for strikes. 1 run on 4 hits with 7ks. Getsa nice ovation. Sturtze is in, and I fear.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:29 pm
  • Wigginton grounds to ARod; the Yanks turn the 5 4 3 to get out of the inning.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:33 pm
  • Scratch that; it’s 2 outs. Branyon up.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:34 pm
  • Easy play by Phillips to Sturtze covering first to end the inning. Great end to the last inning in Cleveland. Harris grounds out to first, Lowell out at second, Varitek out at home. Then the Tribe hits a double followed by a single to tie the game. Go Cleveland.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:39 pm
  • Cairo fouls off a pitch to stay in the at bat; full count. Good night for him, 2 doubles and a walk.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:41 pm
  • Cairo gets underneath the pitch hit high and straight at Gathright to make it 2 outs.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:42 pm
  • Just walked in the door. 8-1! Woo-hoo!

    YF April 25, 2006, 9:43 pm
  • It’s been fun, YF. Moose pitched great tonight. His control and motion on his breaking ball was really impressive.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:46 pm
  • Hall doubles to left center on a fat pitch hung out there by Villone.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:48 pm
  • Villone puts another one right in the fat part of the bat, but this time Matsui can run it down. More Fear.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:49 pm
  • Cairo plays (very good play) a sharp shot that took a weird hop off of Villone’s foot. to get the 2nd out; Hall holds at 2nd.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:51 pm
  • Cairo plays (very good play) a sharp shot that took a weird hop off of Villone’s foot. to get the 2nd out; Hall holds at 2nd.

  • I figure double posting is my only chance to catch the Sox thread in number of posts.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:52 pm
  • Holy Fricking Bartman play in left field. Fan interference costs Matsui the out in foul territory! Arrgh! #*(&$^@*&

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:53 pm
  • Villone embarrases Gathright with some good gas to get the out. That fan was in pinstripes, by the way.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:53 pm
  • Foulke gets Boston out of the inning for Boston. Game’s tied in Cleveland with 9-1-2 up for Boston. C’mon Mota!

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:56 pm
  • Jeets steps in to lead of the bottom of the eigth, with Brian Meadows on the mound for TB. He doubles a 1-0 pitch to the right corner. Nice piece of hitting.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:57 pm
  • Sheff lifts one about a mile in the air to center. Jeter does not tag.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 9:58 pm
  • ARod finds a hole between short and third to advance Jeter, just about 6 inches out of Wigginton’s reach.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:01 pm
  • In Boston, the IBB to Ortiz fails as Manny jacks one to put the sox up 8-5. He the tosses the bat in a way that might get you beaned in your next plate if it were, say Pedro.
Giambi hits a sac fly to score Jeter; Matsui up with two outs.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:04 pm
  • I meant in Cleveland, before the pedants get me.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:05 pm
  • Is anyone on this thread anymore? Probably not I am guessing. Gosh, I love the sound of my own typing. :)

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:05 pm
  • Matsui takes a very weak cut at a pitch, high outside corner, maybe 6″ off the plate to end the inning. He was disappointed in himself for swinging at that pitch, based on his expression.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:07 pm
  • No, I love it too. Thanks for keeping us all up to date AG.

    YF April 25, 2006, 10:08 pm
  • Proctor is in for the Yankees. The stadium is emptying because of the steady drizzle and the fact this game has been over for awhile. Hollins weakly grounds out to 2nd as Cairo continues to prove his value.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:10 pm
  • The Proctologist!

    YF April 25, 2006, 10:11 pm
  • Hee. The Red Sox have another mishap in the outfield as Harris dives for a ball. Would have been a SportsCenter highlight. Instead, it’s a double. C’mon, tribe.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:12 pm
  • Proctologist strikes out Gomes, Lee comes upgets a favorable call on the inside corner, then throws a mean curve that is a little low, followed by some juice that Lee flails at, then strikes Lee out swinging to end the game.
Good game all around. Jeter is doing a post-game but I can’t hear it.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:15 pm
  • 10-8. Rolling.

    YF April 25, 2006, 10:16 pm
  • Fricking AARON BOONE hits a hard shot off the wall in left at the Jake to score Broussard, close play at second as Boone comes in with the double. Bos 8, Cle 6. GO TRIBE. Pitching change.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:17 pm
  • Tampa Bay, 1 run off Mussina in the first on a shot by Gomes. Other than that, 5 total hits and one E. Great pitching by the Yanks tonight. My Sturtze fear was unfounded. Yankees hit really well with DJ homering and driving in three runs. Giambi had three ribs, that’s 8 in two games. Maybe the DRays don’t have our number this year.

    attackgerbil April 25, 2006, 10:20 pm
  • Can’t catch the Sox thread, even if I started reading/posting the phone book. I’m hopping over. Good night all.
