YF’s Postseason Awards: Sox-Free Edition

SF had his chance. Now we have ours. And you won’t find Papi in here:

AL MVP: A-Rod
AL CY: Santana (Look at the stats and this is a no-brainer)
AL ROY: Kazmir (sorry Robi, Street, Blanton)
AL MAN: Wedge

NL MVP: Lee (If Pujols wins, fine. But if it’s Jones that’s a c-r-i-m-e)
NL CY: Clemens (With respect to Dontrelle and big ups to Pettitte)
NL ROY: Howard
NL MAN: Cox. Or Yost. Who gives a shit.

Plus, we might as well rub this in: YF’s preseason picks for the division champs: NY, MN, LA; ATL, STL, SD. Wild Cards: BOS, HOU. Seven out of eight. Not bad. In case you’re wondering: SF = 4/8.

  • Yes, well done on the pre-season predictions (so far). I’ll take 4/8 any time, but you did great.
I am with you on Jones, but I think the voters will be swayed by the 51 dongs and the division crown on a pretty unspectacular team. As for Santana, he’s clearly a better pitcher than Colon, who I hate, but again I think the superficial 20 wins thing gets him too much consideration.

  • Did you guys hear about the Yanks beeing peeved about Showalter pulling his stars against the Halos yesterday? See http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2179632&CMP=OTC-DT9705204233.
Is A-Rod right? Is there a “code of honor”?

  • AL MVP: ARod (Mo)
AL CY: Colon, the fat bastard (Mo)
AL ROY: Is Cantu considered a rook? If so, no contest. If not, then, uh…Chacin, maybe?
    AL Manager: Joe.
    NL: Who cares.

  • ARod and Buck aren’t exactly bestest buddies, so I’m guessing that has something to do with his (ARod’s) comment. Doesn’t seem like any of the other Yanks had any real beef with Showalter, though.

  • Wow. Francesa (YF) on the FAN is going nuts on all the Yanks announcers about them bitching about Buck pulling his stars. Saying they have no right to say a peep when Joe starts Wright and basically tanks yesterday’s game in Fenway. Plus Buck has a right to screw the Yanks if he wants to. After all, they did fire him not too long ago. Interesting. He has a point.

  • Francesa’s always been a Buck guy. I was living in NYC the day that Captain Turtleneck fired Buck and hired Torre. Francesa went on a two-hour tirade about how Steinbrenner had just destroyed the Yankees, as there was no possible way that Torre could take the Yanks farther than Buck could. Not the finest piece of sports prognostication of all time.

  • To be fair Francesa is right about the complaining, if the Yankees wanted homefield advantage so bad they should have just beat the Sox yesterday. Also name one person who thought the Torre hiring was a good idea when it happened. I think Steinbrenner’s an idiot when it comes to baseball matters (business matters are another thing) but he got lucky as hell with the way Torre has worked out.

  • You reap what you sow, I guess. But Buck deserves what he gets in criticism here, and he can’t expect anything down the road for his club when it matters. Personally, I think it was classless by Showalter, a weak and petty move, unprofessional.
I couldn’t stand him before, and this pretty much cements my opinion of him, even if it might have hurt the Yankees.
