Wow. I honestly didn’t expect the Sox to act on the Smoltz debacle that quickly. I thought they’d at least send him to the bullpen anyway.
Good to see Tazawa up. He tore through AA and AAA; I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do.
And now the Great John Smoltz Experiment has ended.
He’s been DFA’d.
Something is brewing with Alex Rios. Rob Bradford was just reporting it on WEEI. I missed the first half of the report, though.
Toronto apparently placed him on waivers, and a mystery team put in a claim. Bradford is spe3culating it might have been the Red Sox because they need his bat and they can afford his bloated contract.
Interesting stuff. Farewell Smoltzie.
Of course Smoltz is going to get picked up by someone like the Yankees and go 9-0 with a 2.50 ERA.
During last night’s disastrous inning, I started to get the sense that Francona was leaving Smoltz out there as long as possible so he could say, “OK, *now* can you stop requiring me to pitch this guy?”
Junichiwa and welcome.
Mmmmmm, Kei Igawa.
Well, he’s a better option than Billy Traber anyway.

Rios rumors false, according to this tweet:
